Express Office Broken Into. Last Sunday night after mid night, supposed to' be about two o'clock, the Express office here was broken into by trimming the out and lifting out a pane or two. of glass . Several Jugs of soft drinks appeared to have been sam pled and recorked and let care fully out of the way. Evidently real booze was the object in view, for about four gallons appeared, to be missing, Postmaster Recommended For Gra ham. & On Monday Hon. CSias. M. Sted man recommended to the President the appointment of Mr. John M. McCracken as postmaster for Gra ham. While Mr. McCracken had a strong competitor In Mr. Chas. C. Thompson, no hitch is antici pated in the confirmation. Mr. McCracken will succeed the pres ent p'ostmaster, Mr. Heenan Hughes, whose term expires in the early part of next year. Mr. Mc- Cracken says it is his ambition to the best postmaster Graham ever had. He has a genius for detail .work, such as make up a post master's duties, and it is confident ly believed he will do his very best to give the patrons of the of fice the best service at his com mand. His friends on all sides are congratulating him on his success in winning the prize. Killed at Piedmont Railway & Elec tric Co.'s Power Plant. Last Thursday afternoon about 5 o'clock a falling brick. •trtfck Rudy Long, colored, op the back of the head about the bade of the brain, knockinghim senseless. He never regained consciousness and died about 11 o'clock that night. He and one or two others were at work at the bottom of the eleva shaft, shoveling in a stooping po sition when several brick fell from the efevator above. None of the others received any injury.- Thla was at tlie Piedmont & Electric Co.'s big electric power plant, on the line between Graham and Bur lington, now nearing completion. Up to this though a large number of men have been at work for sev eral months, there' had been no accident of a serious character. Rudy Long was a hard working, reliable hand. Last Friday night the Baraca ?lass of New Providence was Invit ed to the home of Mrs. Bettie Boswell, near Midway, to spend evening. To their surprise the Philathea class of the same church was there and gave the Baracas i good time serving fruits and jther good things to eat. Several nice games were played and all tirffl a pleasant evening.
