It should be observed rev erently for the sake of both the living and the dead who took part in the World War. Graham U. D. G. Meeting. On last Thursday afternoon, 3rd inßt., Graham Chapter of the Daugh ters of the Confederacy held ita reg ularly monthly meeting with Miss Mamie Parker. It was the last meeting of the year poriod and the past year's work was reviewed and officers for the ensuing year were elected. All financial obligations have been met and the Chapter reg istered under present requirements. The following officers were elected: Mrs. J. Dolph I-ong, pres.; Mrs John J. Henderson, vice-pres.; Mrs. W. R. Goley, recording sec'y.; Mrs. E. P. McClure, treas., Mrs. J. N. Taylor, registrar; Mrs Will E.White, historian; Miss Mamie Parker, re corder of crosses; Mesdames W. Ern est Thompson and Robt. N. Cook, leaders of the Children's Chapter. A scholarship at the University was awarded to Newton Cox of the Graded School for the best essay on "Life and achievements of Jefferson Davis." After the business was disposed of the hostess. Mis« Mamie Parker, served delightful refreshments. Meeting of Spring Betterment Asso ciation. The Women's Betterment Asso ciation of Spring Community met at thier regular time on Saturday, Nou. 5, at 2:30 p. m. with a large number of members present. Miss Edna Reiuhardt, County Home Demonßtation Agent, was present and gave a demonstration on millinery. The ladies were very much interest in the work and one lady brought material to make a hat. The ladies, who were appoiot>d as members of the County Council, made a report of the programs they had planned for the next two months, December program, "Cakes and f»ncy cake icings;" January program, "Poultry and gardening." The association adjourned to meet on Saturday, Dec. 3rd, at 1:00 p. m. Barn Burned Last Thursday night the bsrn of Mr. D. R. Low, in Boon Station township near Ossipee, was burned. Mr. Low had bis lantern in the barn with him and it was knocked over t>y a chicken and set the barn on fire. Mr. Low bad bis tobacco stored in the barn, all of which was burned with the barn.
