The "hold-up" business in nil parts of the country is alarming. No one appears to be exempt when it comes to taking money or other valuables easily trans ported, nor does life stand in the way of the desperado. Crime is rampant. Col. Chas. A. Lindburgh, the "good will ambaesador,"has visited several Central and South Ameri can countries since the Christmas spent in Mexico. The rulers and people have received him with open arms and heaped honors on him, bnt he is unchanged?modest and unassuming. Whether Gov. ,A1 Smith i; ever president or not, the law-abiding will applaud him for his firm stand in refusing clemency to ltuth Snyder and Henry Judd Gray, illicit lovers, who cold bloodedly murdered the former's husband. The convicts go to the chair at Sing Sing tonight. Charges w6re filed in Washing ton to prevent the confirmation of Judge Johnson J. Hayes, Middle N. C. District. The Judiciary committee found in favor of Hayes nutf his confirmation will be made. Some of his political friends, jeal ous, no doubt, had it in mind to defeat his confirmation. Eggs from blood-tested flocks of pure strains will furnish the best supply of baby chicks, warns poultry specialists at State Col lege. Liver is a vain able addition to the family diet says Miss Mary Thomas, nutrition specialist at State College. It is rich in-vita mins and iron. Some Christmas Stories Written by Seventh Grade Pupils of Glenhope School (These stories were not received in time for publication before Christmas, but at the request of the Superintendent we are printing them now in recognition of the meritorious effort.?Editor.) Poor Children Looking For Santa Claus Once upon a time there was a poor family who had nine children in it. Four were girls and five were boys. The girls' names were Polly, Molly, Hazel and Margaret. The boys' names were Thomas, Harvey, Reginald, Willie and Ar thur. These children were all very fond of their parents and tried to do everything they could for them. The children's parents were not able to send them to school like other little boys' and girls' parents do, nor did they have a chance for pleasure as most children do now. The little girls by the name of Molly and Polly were little twins, three years old and their hair was exactly alike. They had blue eyes and blonde hair. They dressed alike. They were so much alike that no one could hardly tell one from auothor. Everything that one would say the other repeated after her. Hazel was a little girl five years old. She was a beautiful little girl with black hair and blhttk eyes. Also Margaret was a very pretty child. She was seven years and also had black hair and black eyes. Thomas was a little eight-year old boy and was a very kind, pleasant child. Harry was a uine year-old boy. Reginald was eleven years old. Willie was twelve years old. Arthur was thirteen years old. The children were all looking for Santa Claus. They wished and wished every night. One night their wishes came true. Every child hung his big stock ing, middle size stockings and lit tle stockings. The children could hardly wait until morning. f?au ta Claus cam and filled every stocking as foil as full could he. Even Santa Claus had left the children's father and mother a present. 'I Next morning the children were up before their parents were be cause their parents were not ex pecting anything for Christmas But Santa Claus had remembered everyone in the house. Molly and Polly had a new dress, shoes, stockings, hats, and a big new doll exactly alike. Margaret -and Hazel had new dresses, shoes, stockings, hats and a doll apiece. Thomas had a new pair of pants, a cap, a pair of shoes, socks, and a box of checkers. Harry and Reginald had new pants, caps, shoes, socks and many flee crack ers. Willie and Arthur had pants, caps, shoes, socks and a rifle apiece. Their mother had a new dress, slippers, hat, stock ings and a set of nice dishes. Their father bad a now pair of pants, a hat, shoes,- socks and a load of wood for them to burn. All the family was very happy over their Christmas preseuts that Santa Claus had brought to them. Nora Albright. A Happy Christmas for Nell and Her Mother. Little Nell was a very poor girl, whose father was dead. She aud her mother lived alone near a large city. All that she hud to play with was her little dog. When they went to the city she wonld see the beautiful things iu the store windows, so this qiade her think that it was getting near Christmas. Though she longed for some of thorn, she knew she could not get them, for it would be a lot if she got a stick of can dy. She had a rich uncle, and a few days after that she found that her mother had received a letter from him telling her that he was coming to visit her Christ mas and asked her if he could come to live with them. Of course the letter was answered yes, because they were so lone some there alone, with uobody to keep them company but the little dog. They were expecting him any time, so there was a rush un til he caute. A few days before Christmas he arrived, saying that bis trunk would be*there in a few minutes, which contained a few presents for them, which-he hoped they wonld like. He petted the dog and said it was a nice one. At last the trunk arrived and there was such a rush to get it open. When it was opened, there were such presents as they had never seen before. There were _ ilolls and all kinds of toys, dresses, coats and bats for Nell. There were dresses, coats and dishes for 1 her mother. When Christinas came, there were more presents. They had a merry Christmas, and they were also happy because Nell's uncle was going to live with them al ways. Christine Young. i Commissioner's Re-Sale I ol Valuable Land.
