Four years ago the country stood on dizzy heights and little thought that business was on the eve of a prolonged nose dive. It came and the way i strewn with the wreckage of personal and business fortunes. Future historians will record the marvelous survival and in tegrity of the great Republican of America amid all of it. Mr. .Hoover was at the helm and piloted the ship. If it were through his skill that it was kept off the rocks, full credit should be accorded him. Re gardless of partisan bias, thonghtful people rocognize that he had a most difficult role to perform. Like the rest of human kind he had a human side that was not impervious to human weaknesses. In the be ginning he was praised and trusted; now the reverse is true. When be leaves the White House Saturday none should be so mean as not to wish him a peaceful and use ful life. The coming of Mr. Roosevelt to the White House Saturday is one of cheer and hopefulness. The country is optimistic, and his record as Governor of New York is an inspiration, but he cannot do it all. He must have the help of a united people to restore norm;.] conditions. He will take up a I most difficult task, perhaj ; greater than that of any pre decessor, but any who believes that relief will bo immediate is doomed to a measure of disap pointment. HOTCHPOTCH Out in Iowa script is being issued for currency. The farm ers are selling their corn for J5 cents per bushel and taking pay in script which has a face traue value. This is an inflation of the money medium that will be helpful to the localities in which it is used, and will no . be hurtful, even, if reasonable inflation be hurtful generally. It is the money in circulation that peps up business. Nathan L. Bachman of Chat tanooga, Teun., has been ap poiuted U. S. Senator to suc ceed Senator Cordell Hull who will be Secretajy of State in President Roosevelt's cabinet. Finance and taxation, twins and inseperable, are the chief things of State-wide interest which are engrossing the atten tion of the Legislature. If the Legislature would spend as much time in working out plans to save money in the operation of county govern ments as it has in trying to de vise ways of raising money by various forms of taxation, the people would get some relief. A bill is in preparation to give to the County Commission en in the various counties ?weeping authority to fix sala ?? ' } ,iie?, make consolidations and letenniue what others are ieedei'. Well enough that: but n many instances, no doubt, ;he County Coti missiouers will Be looking after their pe ? .onal t mterei to an extent that ??/ould blind t em to ie real oujects sought Let them fix it ;j the Count. As a general rule animals should not be turned on pasture before the first of April and in many cases it would be better to wait until the middle of the month. Discovered !
