PRODUCTION ABOVE PRICE
Government price fixing poli
cies are blamed for wide fluctua
tions in farm income, both as
between products and defferent
regions of the country. Income
from some products has soared,
while income from others has
risen only slightly. Costs of pro
ducing all farm products have
shown large increases.
But the farmer has worked
long hours and kept up produc
tion under handicaps and in
equalities which would have been
consideced ruinous to far less
essential war activity. The
American farmer does not plan
his total productive effort on a
wage and hour basis?he still
produces as an independent citi
zen who is trying to save his in
dependent way of living even if
he has to work longer and make
less than those who produce only
for a "price."
" Funeral Home Purchases Prop
erty From Mrs. Frank Moore
Mrs. Frank Moore has sold her
home on Main street and Al
bright avenue, to S. C. Forrest
and H. G. McElroy, funeral di
rectors and morticians. The new
owners plqn to use the building
and premises as a funeral home.
Renovation will be made to the
house in time to permit Mr. For
rest and Mr. McElroy to move
into the home around June 15.
Mrs. George 0. Marshall
MRS. GEORGE C. MARSHALL
! FOUNDS THE
GRANDMOTHERS LEAGUE
WASHINGTON, D. C.: General
George C. Marshall'* wile founded
the Grandmothers League as a roll
of honor for grandmothers who buy
War Bonds for their grandchildren.
Mrs. Marshall herself btws Bonds
and stamps regularly for her three
frandchildren, Tupper Brown, age
. Jimmy Winn, 2, and Jimmy^s
sister Kitty, 9 months.
"Those Bonds flght for America
today," Mrs. Marshall said in Wash
ington. "When they mature they
will bring to the coming generation
the educational and other privileges
that make America worth fighting
for."
Scabby Face
One way to prevent "scabby face"
(infectious dermatitis), a skin in
fection usually beginning at the cor
ners of the mouth and extending
slowly over the face and body of
suckling pigs, is to move farrow
ing houses from old, contaminated
lots to clean ground.
It may also be helpful to clip the
tusks of baby pigs to prevent them
from injuring each other, since such
wounds are often important sites of
entry for the infectious agent, says
the department of animal pathology
and hygiene, University of Illinois
college of agriculture.
If the disease does appear, some
of the affected pigs may be saved
by a daily treatment with S per cent
creosol applied with a medium-stiff
brush. However, this treatment
must start early, the department
warns.
DID MAN OR NATURE

What awakened Mount Vesuvius
from its slumber to bring terror again
to the people of Italy? Did man or
