THE FRANKLIN ' TIMES. , A. THOMAS, Editor and Proprietor Feiday. May, 22, 1896. NOTICE. Parties having business with the Times of any nature will confer a favor by call ing at the office of E. F. Yarborough, associate editor, across the passage from the composing room. The printers have no authority to make contracts nor at tend to any business connected with, the paper, being employed solely to do type- xfttine and other mechanical work. It causes a loss of their time, which often' times delays the issue of the paper to have them attend to matters of the nature above referred to. Visitors are also re quested to be governed by this. TAR DROPS. Life i too short for neighbor to be eternal piuttiug w ucoiiiuy tuc iiayyi- ness of his. neighbor. When a man really loves his neigh bor as himself it generally turns out that the neighbor is a pretty girl ! TheJ professional card of Dr. J. R. Palmer, who has recently located at Franklinton, appears in this issue. Mr. R. G-. Hart has moyed into his nw residence on Church street and Mr. V. P. Neal will occupy the house vacated by Mr. Hart. A woman will face a frowning world and cling to the man she loves through the most bitter season of trial and adversity, but she wouldn't wear a hat three weeks behind the style to save your life. We direct your attention to the advertisement of Messrs.' Turner & Ellis beaded a "Word to the unfortunate.'" Whenever in need of anything in the undertaking line, you can not do better than to call on this firm. They carry a large stock of Coffins, Caskets, &c, and will sell you at reasonable prices. While in conversation yesterday with one of our leading tobacconists we were told that there is a pressing de mand for more prizeries the tobacco interest having so largely grown recent ly. He also told us that the tobacconists would cheerfully pay a rental that would yield 12 per cent, on the capital invested- The Treasurer's annual statement of the expenses &c, of the town appears in this issue of the Times, and as usual, with our exeellentTown Treasurer, every- thinsf shows up straight. As will be seen by the affidavits of the auditing c itnmittee, the Treasurer's accounts were all found correct, and the full amount -pf balance on hand wa3 found to be to the credit of the Treasurer, in bank. Don't let a fakir, come around and hypnotize you into buying something you do not want. Assert yourself, and me your time and your money for your own advantage. There is a great profit in the schemes worked by fakirs, who only expect to cath one customer out of uventv people they tackle. Don't you be the twentieth chump. A fakir is t-asily bluffed if you once learn how to do it. You haven't time to talk to every man or woman who comes around with a -scheme. Franklinton Items. From our regular correspondent. ; The recent rains were heartily wel comed by the farmers especially those who had not set out their tobacco. Franklinton will join hands with the rest of Franklin county and send up a solid delegation for Col. J ule Carr, for Governor. Give us J ule Carr as onr standard bearer and we will elect him by a large majority. A prominent republican said to your correspondent a few days ago that if the democrats nominated Col. J ule Carr thev could beat Russell easy. Mr. Dave Hobbs went to Durham this week to see a close relation to "Joe Patchen." He did not buy. Mrs. R. K. Williams of Raleigh is visiting her mother-in-law Mrs. W. H. Mitchell, We were shown a few days ago the commissions of the officers of the Frank lin Guards. Captain W. L. McGhee; 1st lit. I. H. Kearney; 2nd Lt. C. R. Sanderling. Capt. McGhee says he will soon have the boys as well drilled as any company in the State. The boys pre sent a fine appearance in their fatigue uniform, but what will they do when their regular suits and helmets get here ? The boys will soon have them and then "watch the boys." Franklinton feds a great interest-in her military. UNIVERSITY COMMENCEMENT.
