Relative to the Road Law for Franklinton N The proposed law in its previsions -for working roads is in all material L respects identical with the laws for Mecklenburg and other counties that have built good roads. There fore the methods to be used will not fee an experiment but 1iave been proven satisfactory. Bvery section of the township is represented in the board of trustees, a guarantee that no section will be slighted. Five of the trustees live in Franklinton and eight outside. The law speeifically provides that no money may be spent in any incor porated town. , It is a' so provided that the pres at system of compulsory road duty hall be abolished. As matters no w are, the man who has ten teami using the roads pays noOaore toward keeping them ap than the man who hat none. ! The farmer with 1000 acres" eon tributes no more than,; the farmer with fifty. And the man"' who livea ' in, town may. use the roads as ii mueh as he pleases ; and ' pys absolutely nothing. ' The railroad, dependent on the roadr for freight : shipments, with $280,000 worth of property in the township pays - nothing, while Bill Smith without a horse or mule or even ox it liable fqr six days work eath year. 'J'. Hoadt thoild,be kept Hp by 'the ' folks who get the benefit: Bonds are provided forte tha it may be possible' to get all the - roads in good' shape quickly. Also ii is found more economical in that with money available a competent super- .,: mtendent can: keeD several gangs at work at the same time. It will benefit the town because . mere trade will 6me.' rV Y X It will eriefif the farmer mott of all because through good roadt what he buys will come cheaper and what he sells will nt more.
