The Executive Committee of Wake
Forest College Alumni Association an
nounces the appointment of Mr. Trela
D. Collins as secretary of the associa
tion to. succeed F. K. Pool, resigned.
Mr. Collins begins this week with the
work as secretary and he statss that
before the opening of the college he
hopes to visit the various alumni as
soclations of the State.
For the last two years Mr. Collins
has served as pastor of the Louisburg
Baptist church, prior to which time
he was pastor of a large Baptist chu
rch in Camden, N. J. Mr. Collins
graduated from Wake Forest College
in 1910 and following his graduation
he took post graduate work in the Un?- j
iversity of Pennsylvania where he ob
tained the degree of master of arts.
He is also a graduate of Crozer Theo
logical Seminary, Both Mr. Collins
and hiB wife are natives of Randolph
county in this State.
The Alumni Association of Wake
^Forest College Inaugurated at the
last commencement the most ambiti
ous program ever undertaken by. the
alumni of the college. This program
Includes the organization* of Wake
Forest Alumni Associations in all of
the larger counties of the State and
the building up of a strong general as
sociation. As part of the program it
is also proposed to complete arrange
ments for the construction of a mod
ern athletic field at the college. The
re are more than 10,000 alumni of the
college and among this number are
leading citizens in every section of
the State. * ^

her father, was attired in a pretty
traveling suit of midnight blue with
accessories matching and carried a
bouquet of bride's roses. They were
met at the altar by the groom and his

bridge club of which Mrs. Cralle is a

happened in Louisburg. with small
bad results however.

horse and buggy near the Baptist
Chqrch. The radiator on the car was
damaged but no serious damage was
done the horse, bugs; or to persons.

was damaged and the horse also but

near being serious.
On Wednesday evening while re
turning home from a ride Mrs.. A. S.
Wlggs ran into a telephone post in

and smashed the top section of the
windshield. cutting ugly gashes on
the mouth and forehead of her sister,
Miss Pearle Timberlake, and, bend
ing the radias rods and otherwise da

Chief of Police Matthews, of Walnut
Cove, N. C., and Walter Martin, of
Madison, are dead and an unidentified
negro is seriously wounded as the re
sult of a battle in the road 1 mile
north of Walnut Cove today between
a sheriff's posse an2T three fugitive
prisoners from Madison, N. C.
The shooting was the result of a
row at & carnival dance hall when
the negro insisted on dancing with
white show girls. :A disturbance was
created and- the Miadison men, indu
ding Martin, Jack' Hawkins and the
negro were placed under arrest. En
route to the mayor's office they es
caped and fled in an automobile.
Chief Matthews was one of a posse
formed to pursue the fleeing prison
ers, and they were overtaken a mile
north Of Walnut Cove. A command
to surrender met with a fusillade and

and register the delegates. The ad
dresses on the first day of the session
