Throw open the windows of your house and barn and let in the
good fresh air.
Remember the proverb that "an alfalfa field is a hog's idea of
heaven."
Look out for clogged ditches. Clean them out, so they won't
overflow. , '
P*int your buildings. Clean up generally and' make the place
look inviting.
Screen your home. Make or buy screens and live comfortably.
Plies are disease carriers.
Plant a woodlot. This is a good time to do it. Consult a nrsery
man about varieties to grow. '
Keep stock off pasture until the grass gets a good start. Early
pasture has no strength, and early pasturing will kill the grass.
To get horses' shoulders toughened up for work, "bathe them with
salt water daily for a week or so before using the horses. Start
heavy work slowly; SLOWLY, mind you..
Put the brood sow in a movable house and let her farrow in pas
ture. Keep her warm, though.
Apply, lime early. Spring applications should be made as soon as
the soil is dry enough to crumble. The lime may be harrowed in
after plowing. On land that is drained or on hill land where le
gumes are to be grown, one to two tons an acre should be applied,
depending on the degree of acidity.
