The Annual Franklin County
Farm Tour is planned for Tuesday,
July 18. It is suggested that the
Tour will start at Youngsville on
farm of W. T. Moss and be con
ducted through Harris, Dunn and
Cedar Rock Townships. Important
Items of Interest on Tour will be
boll weevil control, production of
certified seed, breeding of Perch
eron horses, summer legume tests
corn variety t/ests, tobacco variety
tests, tobacco fertilizer tests,
poultry production, egg produc
tion, swine managment project
and other items of interest to '
both the farmer and farmer's wife.
The Tour will cover distance of
approximately 35 miles from start
to finish, as being so planned that
farmers living on the Youngsville
side of 'County can start at
Youngsville and those living on
opposite side of County having to
go to Youngsville tio start will end
up near home. All farmers and
v farm women are invited to tour
with the group and visit the de
monstrations conducted.
Mr. L. T. Weeks, Extension
Tobacco Specialist from State Col
lege, visited with me tihe tobacco
variety test on the farm of J. W.
Hudson, Youngsville, N. C. Rt. 1,
and tobacco fertilizer test on farm
of J. A. Perry, Louisburg, N. C.,
Rt. 4. These Demonstrations were
found to be in good condition for
the datie and both demonstrations
were selected for stops on farm
tour being planned for Tuesday,
July |18. Signs were put up on
rowa showing variety and kind of
fertiliser used on each plot when
visited.
A meeting was called and con
ducted In Oold Mine Township for
purpose of studying boll weevil In
festation within that Area. Twenty
two farmers attended the meeting
and Tlslted with me farms where
square counts were made for pur
pose of determining percentage of
square* punctured. On two fields
observed. 60% Infestation was
found on one and 90% on the oth
er. Several mature boll weevils
were located. Fnrmers indicated
the desire to dust to control dam
age expected from weevils.
