PRAISES "THE LOST COLONY"
Manteo, N. C., ? Time Magazine
features a full-length review Of
Pflui Green's "The Lost Colony",
jn the July 10th issue which was
released this week. The review in
the provocative newsmagazine was
'written by Louis Kronenberger,
dramat'ic ? critic, who came from
New York to attend the opening
performance of the third summer
eeason at the Waterside Theatre
here July 1.
To quote the \ast paragraph of
the Kronenberger review: '''Paul
Green wrote no glib anniversary
pageant, His scenes range from
tbe humorous to the heToic. With
great sincerity be infused into tbe
dreams of bis lost colonists his
own dream of democracy. And by
using lovely and moving old Eliza
bethan ballads and hymns he gave
'The Lost Colony' a lyric quality
that words could not have achiev
ed." ? Time Magazine, July 10th.

A TRIBUTE
In the passing of Mrs. Betty
Poythreas loved ones and a host
of friends will miss t'he smile and
quiet gentle ways of a motherly
woman. Beautiful gray wavy hair
adorned her brow.
She was called Mam-my by all
who knew her best.
Proverbs thirty-one read at her
funeral was appropriate of a life
so worthily lived. Her children
rise up and call her bleBsed and
thauk the Heavenly Father for the
untiring love and voiceless pray
ers of their mother.
After the death of her husband
Mam-my lived with her children
and was always a welcomed guest
in their home, and was given all
the tenderness and unselfish
thoughtfulness they could render
their eighty-five years old mother
to make her declining years the
happiest. Remarkable for her age
her mind was clear and she never
lost interest in t'he affairs of the
day.
Her eye-sight grew dim but the
light grew brighter on the other
side as was evidenced in her last
hours by calling the names of lov
ed ones who had preceded her-^o
the glory world.
Alas! too well we know our
loss, nor hope again our joy to
touch, unMl the stream of death
we cross.
Our beloved seems so far, while
we yearn to feel her near.
Bear Lord, how shall we know I
that they, still walk unseen with
us and Thee?
Jesus says: Abide in me. We
will think of her still as the same
and say, She is not dead. She is
just away.
Mrs. Poythress joined the
church when ten years old.
To her children Mrs. Mattie
Sout'hall, Mrs. Eva Sheffield, Mrs.
Annie Pruitt, Mrs. Lillian Smith
and her sons, John, Rufus, Ernest,
George and the granddaughter,
Mrs. Gladys Beasley, I extend
sympathy..

conservationist of the State Col

plowing up and down a slope just
digs a bunch of little ditches that
will carry off some of his top soil
every time it rains.
