Small farmers are benefiting

announces N. H. Ayscue. Chair

tee. Mr. Ayscue further advised
that 15,785 pounds of Austrian
winter peas had already been dis
ributed mostly to small farmers
n Franklin County to assist' them
in earning their soil building al

mote a program of soil building
by planting winter legumes on
their farms. There has been one
carload consisting of 54 tons of
agricultural limestone ordered.
This material was ordered as
Grant of Aid by P. R. Inscoe,
Leonard Frazier, N. F. Freeman,
W. Seba Strickland. Grace R.
Kearney, J. C. Nowell and L. O.

All interested farmers are'' in
vited to see a demonstration of
the bloodless method of castrat
ing calves. This method is easy
to perform, requires no incision,
leaves no wounds to heal and
causes no scars. A demonstration
on dehorning calves will also be
given at the same time. Mr. L. I.
Case. Extension Animal Husband
man from State College, will con
duct the demonstration on the
farm of Mr. W. J. Alston near
Epsom. Friday morning. Septem
ber 27, beginning at 10:00
o'clock. Three or four calves
will be treated and the demon
stration will not last over an
hour.
Mr. J. C. Ferguson. C'oMon Gin
Specialist from State College,
conducted meetings at Mitchiner's
Cross Roads and H. F. Fuller's
gin on Saturday. Sept. 21. Mr.
Ferguson showed pictures which
offered complete assurance to the
farmers t'hat they could obtain
high grade and good ginning of
their cotton if they took proper
steps to 'assure cl?an picking and
give cctton a!' least one day's sun
ning before taking to the gin.
One bale of cotton was observed
at gin in sheets where sheets had
beeu on ground and as a result
the cotton near the ground in the
sheets was too wet- for proper
ginning. Mr. Ferguson recommen
ded to secure best grade and sta
ple. picking clean and having gin
ned only when dry.
The United States postoffice de
partment is issuing so many new
kinds of stamps one cannot keep
up with the changes but there
isn't likely to be any protest so
long as present prices remain the
same.

Questions
Answered at State College
QUKMTION: > If small grain Isi
| to follow corn or cotton, lion
should tlx- laud be prepared?
ANSWER: A good seed bed can
be prepared on row crop land by
disking if power is available. Too
often, seedings following corn
and cotton are made too late to
produce good yields. Late Novem
ber seedings of small grains are
hazardous, and many failures re
sult. So the grain should be seed
ed earlier, particularly t'hat fol
lowing cotton and corn, as these
two crops usually prevent earlier
seedings.
QITK8TION : How long will it
i take for pullets to luy large eggs?
I ANSWER: Egg size is inheri

I
[he eggs are quite small, but as
