In Service ? - BENARD S. PERGERSON, JR. LONG BINH, VIETNAM (AHTNC>?-Arnfiy Major Ben ard S. Pergerson, Jr. (right), son of Mr. and Mrs. Benard S. Pergerson, Sr., Ramey's Circle, Frankllnton, N.C., re ceives the Legion of Merit in ceremonies near Long Binh, Vietnam, November 15. Congratulating him Is Major General Robert R. Williams, commanding general, 1st Avi ation Brigade. Major Pergerson was honor ed for exceptionally merit orious service from No vember 1966 to Movember 1967 while serving consecutively as operations officer and sec retary of the general staff at Headquarters, 1st Aviation Brigade, In Vietnam. His citation reads in part: " Major Pergerson con JAMES F. GREEN CAMP PICKETT, VA. (AHTNC)-- Army Specialist Four James F. Green, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Green, Jr., 104 William St., Frankllnton, N. C., par ticipated In three months of field training exercise at Camp Pickett, Va., with the 6th Armored Cavalry Reg iment. Field training conditions resembled those of combat. Soldiers used camouflage and tactical movement, and em ployed ambush and counter ambush planning as well as perimeter defense. Prior to the regiment's re turn to its home station at Ft. George G. Meade, Md., it underwent live fire exer cises and squadron training tests. Spec. Green is a cannoneer Jn Howitzer Battery of the regiment's 1st Squadron. Debates would be more pro fitable If the participants were more interested in the truth than the decision of Judges. Crudup, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph S. Crudup of Rt. 2, Frankllnton, N.C., Is taking part In the 10,000- mile airlift of 101st Airborne Di vision units to Vietnam? the largest and longest aerial troop deployment In history. Airman Crudup Is an air operations specialist , as signed to the 803rd Military Airlift Support Squadron at Kadenv AB, Okinawa. The 603rd Is supporting the air lift of units of the 101st ? the farmed Screaming Eagles ? from Ft. Campbell, Ky., to -Vietnam. / Airman Crudup is a 1963 gradjaate of B.F.
