Quickie Outdoor Supper Aid To Housewife Rush to ... .j supermarket. Pick up Susie titer her swim ming leaaon. Stop at the hard ware store. Take Bobbie to the dentist. Pick up Dad's watch at the jewelers. And speaking of Dad . . . it's almost time for him to come home from the office. You promised the kids a picnic supper, but there just isnt time! Or is there? With a few "quickie" out door recipies, you can have supper ready by the time Dad gets home, and still keep your promise to the kids. How about serving exciting, but easy to prepare "Hamburger Surprises," corn on the cob and a fresh vegetable salad? A cold drink and some water melon for dessert should round out your menu. Hamburger Surprises are made by putting together - sandwich style - two thin patties of ground beef with a surprise filling between. The filling can be a slice of toma to, some Cheddar or blue cheese, a spoonful of pickle relish, an onion slice or any thing else that goes well with hamburgers. Or try combina tions of fillings. Press the sides of the patties together neatly to hold the filling in side. Just before serving, brown your rolls near the edge of the grill. If you light your grill just before you start to prepare the food, the fire will bum down to its hottest, most even heat by the time the hamburgers and corn are pre pared. Lighting the Tire is no difficult task, today. It's safe and easy with a new product, BernzOmatic's "Fire Starter," a clean solid fuel that lights instantly with a match and cannot flare up. Just break off one or two cubes, place it in your grill and cover with charcoal. After the charcoal has started, spread the coals for even distribution of heat. "Fire Starter" provides an added plus, no chemical tastes onyour food to detract from the flavor you've work ed to preserve and enhance. The even, intense heat of charcoal allows you to easily roast com on your grill. Wrap each husked ear in aluminum foil with some butter, salt and pepper. Place the ears on the grill for 15 to 20 minutes, turning frequently. Serve with extra butter and season ing for a real old-fashioned roasted com flavor. Your salad can contain as few or as many fresh veget ables ar you like. If time is running out on you, why not limit the salad to just crisp lettuce with a tasty dressing? If you use a mayonnaise-base dressing, you may want to put a spoonful of the salad on top of your hamburger sur prises. It gives the burgers extra flavor and may appeal to kids who don't normally enjoy salad. Beverages, too, can be whatever you have handy - lemonade, ice tea, fruit punch. Either lemonade or orange juice will mix nicely Post Office Serves 27 Agate, Neb - Mrs. Margaret Cook hat been the postmis tress of the tiny 12 by 15 foot poet office line? 1942.
