Elm City New Foe For Bulldogs Elm City is a new opponent for the Louisburg Bulldogs this year and little is known about the squad. The Bears finished last in the Tobacco Belt Conference last year with an 0-5 record. They had 1-9 overall tally. The Bears have played the Franklinton Rams the past two years. In 1966, the Bears took the Rams, 37-27 as they racked up a 7-3 record. Last year, however, Franklinton gained some measure of revenge in downing the visitors, 35-0 in the season opener. The Bears only win last season came at the hands of New Hope, 18-12. Both Louisburg and Elm City played W. R. Davie last year and both lost. Davie beat the Bears, 34-0 and the Bulldogs. 13-6. The Rams beat the Bears, 35-0 and Louisburg downed Franklinton, 26-7. Elm City was scheduled to play the Littleton Blue Jays last Friday night at Littleton. Due to uncertainty of the school situation at Littleton, the game was postponed when school opening was delayed. The Bulldogs are apparently ready. Only fullback Neil McDonald is on he ailing list. He is suffering from an injured ankle and it is unknown whether he will be at full strength by Friday. There are no other injuries reported. Light drills are the order this week for Coach Tommy Twitty's charges. Game time Friday night in 8 P.M. here at the Louisburg Athletic Field. Oxford finishedSthe overall season with a 5-5 record. Franklinton won one from Sprja^Hope (20-12) and lost five. The Rams had an overall recordVf two wins and seven losses. They finished in a tie with Louisburg for sixth place in the league. Coach Jimmy O'Neal, who coached at Garner High School last year and assistant coach Edward Wheeler, who coached at Benvenue last season report that the Rams will use a winged-T offense this year. Freddie Coats and Cliff Williams, two all-conference players are back and O'Neal says "most of our boys have at least a year's experience." He also reports that he has "some good looking prospects" from the freshmen class. "Even though we have a small squad", O'Neal says, "We are looking forward to the season with lots of optimism".
