Stages Fashion Show, Tournament
There was a warm and gay
harvest motif at Green Hill
Country Club Thursday
night, at the Town and Coun
try Garden Club's Fall
Fashion Show and Bridge
Tournament.
Upon arrival guests walked
along a walk lined with huri
cane lamps and vellow burn
ing candles. On the from :
porch was an attractive dis
play of colorful fall branches.
Mis. W. L Lumpkin, Jr.
and Mrs. Jack T. Ayscue were
seated at the reception table.
A fire burned in the large
open fireplace while the
mantlepiece was banked with
colorful leaves. On one end of j
the mantlepiece were two
large brass candle holders and
candles in a nest of red. yel
low. and orange leaves. At the
opposite end of the ballroom
was the refreshment table
which was covered by a
lovely cloth and was centered
by a large pumpkin surround
ed by masses of artificial
fruit. The centerpiece was
flanked on either side by a
large burning candle in a
green base.
Mrs. William H. O'Neal,
president of the club, greeted
the guests and introduced
Joseph X. Hatem of Roanoke
Rapids who narrated the very
colorful and enjoyable
Fashion Show sponsored by
five Louisburg merchants.
The nine lovely models for
the gala event were: Mes
dames Thomas O. Wheless.

Immediately following the
Fashion Show, the Bridge
Tournament competition be
gan. After several progres
sions Mrs. W. F. Shelton was
declared winner of first prize.
Mrs. W. H. Horton. Jr.. Mrs.
W. V. Avent, and Mrs. N. F.
Freeman won second, third
and fourth prizes, respect
ively. The bridge prizes, as
well as several door prizes,
were donated by Louisburg
merchants.
During the course of the
evening guest were served
buffet cheese straws,
brownies, potato chips and
dip, mixed nuts, crackers,
cupcakes, cookies and other
homemade pastries as well as
cold soft drinks and coffee.

the award for meritorious ser
vice in ground operations

At the time of the presen
tation he was a maintenance
supervisor in the 1st Aviation
Brigade's 92nd Assault Heli
copter Company near Dong
Ba Thin.
The sergeant entered the
Army in 1953 and completed
basic training at Ft. Jackson.
S. C. He was stationed at Ft.
Knox. Ky.. before arriving
overseas. He holds the Air
Medal and the Army Com
mendation Medal.
Sgt. White attended Frank
linton High School. His wife.
