Youngs vilfe Woman's Club Has Christmas Party Youngsville - The Woman's* Club Christmas Party was held at the community house Monday night with entertain ment planned by Mrs. D. H. Cyrus, Jr., Mrs. Clarence Con yers, Mrs. W. T. Holden, Mrs. W. 0. Roberts and Mrs. B. F. Woodlief. After several lively games and contests, Santa Claus ar rived to the tunc of Jingle Hells as played at he piano by Mrs. W. T. Holden. " Santa distributed Christmas gifts and wished all a Merry Christ mas before departing. Christ mas Carols were sung by all members joining together for old favorites. \ Green satin ornamejits adorned the silver Christmas tree which was placed on a table covered with green satin draped with swags of holly. On the serving table was a white net cloth underlined with tiny sparkling baubles. A silver candelabrum held red tapers and epergnette filled with holiday greens and red berries. Other areas of the building were decorated with holly garlands and red tapers. Featured over the mantle was a jeweled felt tree outlined with gold braid. On the presi dents table was a holly tree complimented with a pair of cardinals. Hostesses for the evening ?were chairman Mrs. Ray Pearce and Mesdames W. C. Timberlake, Claude Edwards, L. A. Woodiief, James Smith and W. G. Scarborough. Re freshments included red punch, fancy sandwiches, hol iday cookies, Christmas tree mints and peanuts. Candy cane lapel corsages were given to each member. Club President Mrs. Ben Hudson presided at the busi ness meeting which was pre ceded with a seasonal devo tion by Mrs. W. F. Mitchell. Reports were made on food baskets and gifts for shut-ins to be delivered. The president stated that thirty five pounds of Christmas candy was sent by club mem bers for service men in the hospital at Christmas. This i project was done through the Red Cross. Mrs. L. A. Woodiief an | nounced that judging of the ? Home Decoration Contest i sponsored by the club would be done Monday night, the twenty-third, between six -thirty and eight o'clock. Club members voted to sponsor the local Heart Fund Drive in February with Mrs. L. A. Woodlief as Chairman. The Cancer Crusade will be sponsored with Mrs. N. A. Brown and Mrs. R. E. Cheat ham as co-chairman. The March of Dimes Mother's March will be con ducted in January with Mrs. J. T. Moss as chairman. Appointed as the nomina ting committee to select club officers for the ensuing year are chairman Mrs. A. E. Hall and Mrs. W. S. Pearce and Mrs. Clarence Conyers. Miss Pamela Jan Gilliam, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Gilliam of Route 1, Louis burg was crowned "Miss Homecoming 1969" of Youngs\ille High School Tuesday evening during the halftime period of the boys basketball game between Yoyngsville High and Vance County Schools. The new queen was crown ed *by Miss Darline Cooke. 19(>8 Homecoming Queen. Miss Gilliam was escorted by Donnie O'Neal and Miss Cooke by Ronnie Johnson. The Maid of Honor. Miss Patsy Alford was recognized by the 19(58 Queen. She was escorted by Glenn Murray. Other members of Miss Gil liam's court were Miss Linda Cash, escorted by Otha Hill: Miss Deborah Rogers, escort ed by Charles Jones: Miss Elaine Holmes, escorted by Jimmy Johnson: Miss Marsha Woodard. escorted by Mike Hall: Miss Vickie Rogers, es corted by Worth Keith: Miss Darnell Holmes, escorted by Beryl Keith: Miss Carol Mitchell, escorted by Tony Wheeler: and Miss Phyllis Rogers, escorted by Darrell Cooke. The queen's atten dants were Misses Louise Davis and Marsha Joyner. Each of the young ladies wore a white mum corsage. The queen was presented a bouquet of white mums dur ing the ceremony. Phil Hart, vice-president of the Student Council, acted as master of ceremonies. The event was sponsored by the Youngsville High School Stu dent Council. Christmas is a special time filled with merriment for everyone. We hope yours is exceptionally happy since you made us happy by being a customer and becoming a good friend. Garden Club Chairman. Fromthe red tree formed in lights on top of the building to a tiny red feather tree on second floor. Christmas has been brought to the hundreds of patients, visitors and staff there. Responsible for this is the Louisburg Garden Club and the Hospital Guild. At a workshop meeting early in December, the Garden Club made wreaths for the front door and the nurses home, and other committees have decorated reception room, using fresh and artificial ma terials. Small lighted trees have been placed in the halls where space is limited, and larger trees on first floor and in the new south wing. Table arrangements in the staff dining room and a. Ma donna arrangement at the main desk add to the feeling of Christmas. Franklin Memorial Hospi tal Guild provided funds for the decorations. Youngsville Mr. Melvin Bridges is a patient at Wake Forest Branch Hospital. Mrs. G. W. Barnes visited in Concord during the week end with Mr. and Mrs. George Barnes. Jr. and family. p Entertains Bridge Club Youngsville ? Mrs. B. G. Mitchell entertained her bridge club on Tuesday night of this week with guests being Mesdames C. V. Timberlake, J. H. Parrish, G. E. Winston, P. D. Groom, G. W. Barnes, Miss Susie Tharrington, Mrs, B. H. Patterson who won high score prize and Mrs. *R. E. Cheatham who won second high. Between the second and third progressions of bridge Mrs. Mitchell served refresh ments of ambrosia, fruit cake and coffee, with candy canes on each plate.
