Alumnae committees appointed for every county in North Caro lina are this month interview ing the 249 nominees for the Katharine Smith Reynolds Scholarships at the University of North Carolina at Greens boro. Serving on the Committee for Franklin County are Mes dames M. M. Person, Jr., Thomas A. Bland, Joe R. Whitaker and L. C. Hasty. Nominees from the coun ty, each an outstanding mem ber of her high school grad uating class, are Carol An nette Ball, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Ball of Frank Hnton and Deborah. Ann Roberson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Roberson of Route 3, Loutsburg, N. C. Twelve scholarships are awarded to each freshman class. The awards, covering board, room, tuition, fees, books and miscellaneous ex penses. are valued at $1,400 - and are renewable for four years of study. The selection of Reynolds finalists was delegated to the Alumni Association of UNC-G /By the Reynolds Foundation when the pro gram was initiated in 1962. District committees were ap pointed to serve this func tion. The Reynolds Scholarships were established by the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation to memory of Mrs. Katharine Smith Reynold*, a Woman's College (now UNC-C) alumna, wife of the founder of Reynolds Tobacco Com pany. and mother of the late R. J. Reynolds, Jr. The Foundation recently made a grant of 567,200 to support the awards during the 1969-70 academic year at UNC-G. Investment Coarse Offered Mr. Tom Walters, account executive with Merrill Lynch, Pierce. Fenner & Sihfth, Inc.; in Raleigh, will teach a basic course in investment educa tion at Louisburg College. The ten-week instruction period will begin Wednesday, January 22, *969, at 7:30 p.m. Classes will be held once each week, 2 hours in dura tion in the auditorium of the C. W. Robbins Library. The course is intended for those laymen who are in terested in the field of invest ments to the extent that they . wish to obtain a basic work ing knowledge of stocks and securities.
