Dr. Clave Frank Speaks At PTA
(FRK. B.W.) Dr CUye
Frank of Henderson was the
guest speaker at the meeting
of the.^Franklinton High
School P.T.A. on Tuesday
evening in the school audi
torium.
Introduced by Mrs. S. L.
Colbert, program chairman.
Dr. Frank spoke about de
velopmental vision. Beginning
with the infant, the speaker
pointed out that a baby rec
ognizes sound and touch be
fore he can see. tie is three
months old before his eyes
begin to focus on objects. At
the child develops so does his
-vision.
The Optometrist stated
that many children are not
ready to begin school at six
years of age because of physi
cal. emotional or visual prob
lems. A visual diabilitv could
be a lack of eye coordination.
When a child is usually imma
ture. he will have posture
problems, poor classroom be
haviour along with other
problems.
"Seeing is integrated with
all the child's skills and per
sonality", remarked Dr.
Frank.
The belief that 20/20 is an
indication of good vision is a
fallacy. It's only value is to
determine the visual acuity of
20 feet. Most of the child's
learning takes place at 16
inches.
Dr. Frank emphasized that
we see with our brains there
fore we have to learn to see.
A question - answer period
concluded the program.
Mr. Roy Holland presided
over the meeting. Devotional
thoughts were presented by
the Rev. Horace Jackson, pas
tor of the Franklinton liaptist
Church. _ ,
Mrs. George Kearney read
the minutes and also gave a
financial report.
Mrs. R. B. Gordon,
E.S.S.A. Director, reported
that all equipment, (which
the P.T. A. purchased), had
arrived with the exception of
two articles
Mr Wesley Jackson, prin
cipal. expressed thanks for
the worthwhile equipment
The following nominating
committee was appointed:
Mrs. Lamar Greene (chair
man). Mrs. Pauline Ayscue,
