To Town And Country Club Mrs. H.C.Taylor Presents Program On Flower Arranging Mrs. James R. Grady and Mrs. Robert B. Fleming were hostesses for the May meeting of the Town and Country Garden Club Thursday at the Fleming home in Green Hill Estates. Fresh flowers were used in decorating throughout the house. In the living room, where the business meeting was held, there was a clus tered arrangement of Poly nesian Sunset roses in a brass container grown and arranged by Mrs. Grady on an antique table. The den washstand held a washed copper pitcher containing an array of Pink Radiance roses grown and ar ranged by Mrs. Fleming. Following the business meeting the hostesses invited the members and guests into the candlelit dining room for refreshments. The uncovered table was centered with an arrangement of wine snap dragons, Queen Anne's lace, periwinkle and American ivy in a silver and crystal com pote. The centerpiece was flanked by a silver candle holder with ivory burning candles on either side. On the server was a crystal and silver bud vase with Mister Lincoln roses and verigated periwinkle grown and arranged by Mrs. Fleming. Chocolate cake a la mode was served buffet while Mrs. Lawrence G. Barefoot, who was seated at the silver ser vice, served coffee to Mes dames William H. O'Neal. T. Allen Gardner, Walter B. Jones. Conrad B. Sturges, Jr., Richard Smith, Felix H. Al len, III, Frank A. Read, Jr., Paul A. Brewer, TTiomas A. Riggan, J. David Allen, D. R. Saunders, Ivey Bolton, Ford Perry and H. C. Taylor who were guests. Mrs. William H. O'Neal, president, welcomed new members, Mrs. J. David Allen, Mrs. D. R. Saunders and Mrs. Ivey Bolton into the club. During the business "session, Mrs. Richard Smith gave a report from the civic com mittee. Mrs. Thomas A. Rig gan of the Group Therapy committee reported that * therapy program supervised by her and Mrs. Paul A. Brewer had been conducted for the Special Education Class at Louisburg School. Further, Mrs. Riggan reported that she and Mrs. James R. Grady placed arrangements in McDuffie's Rest Home for the club. The secretary read a letter from the State Historian com mending the club for the His tory and Publicity Book which was entered in compe tition. A note by Mrs. Allen Griffin and Mrs. Glenn Marsh, state judges of the history books, was sent to the club, it states the history and pub licity book was "A well-pro duced book that meets re quirements and gave keen competition." The- History and Publicity Book was pre pared by Mrs. Robert B. Fleming, club historian. The club regretfully ac cepted the resignations of Mrs. Lawrence G. Barefoot who will move away and Mrs. W. L. Lumpkin, Jr. Mrs. Walter B. Jones, club secretary, gave a report on the Presidents' Meeting held in Raleigh Thursday. Mrs. Jones was accompanied by Mrs. William H. O'Neal. Mrs. O'Neal gave the annual Presi dent's report. Following the business meeting, the members we#t to the Grady home where Mrs. H. C. Taylor conducted a very informative, interesting and well-presented program on some of the. basics of flower arranging. The club picnic to be held at the Lions' Park Wednes day, May 28, at 6:30 P.M. for all members and their families will b# the final function of the Town and Country Gar den Club until next Septem ber. ? Cochran, new District Director of District Ten, presided over the meet ing. The theme of the meeting. "Let's Have a Happy "U" Year," helped the garden club members: understand garden club aims, understand how to carry them out, utilize the many sources of information and assistance available to garden clubs, and to uphold the fine traditions of the Oar den Club of North Carolina. The club presidents ex changed ideas and informa tion with each other and met the new District Chairman. The awards with entries won by District Ten at the North Carolina Garden Club Convention were displayed so that new presidents could study them and see how the work was done. Drew Pearson, Columnist and Commentator, headed "the list of guest speakers. Mr. rearson spone at me annual banquet. Other guest ipetken were Attorney General Ro bert Morgan, Dr. Leo W.Jen kins. President of East Caro lina University, and Mr. Jack Edgerton, Public Relations Director of W. T. Grant Co. Mr. John W.
