Fredrick Mack Health And Beauty Fungus infections of the skin are probably the most common form of skin disease seen in the general public. Dermatophytosis pedis, athlete's foot, can be fre quently found in people of all ages, regardless of occupa tion, social position or activ ity. This Infection usually be gins as a slight fissure, or crack, between the fourth and fifth toes, which itches severely. Another variety of this fungus begins usually as a small blister found on he bot tom of the feet. After the blister ruptures a raw area remains which may be ex tremely irritating, and at times may become seriously infected secondarily by bac teria. , Some very stubborn infec tions on the scalp are de tected in school children oc casionally. This type mycotic involvement should be isolat ed from the other group of children, even if it is only wearing a cap at all times, at least until the infection has been controlled. This is a very bothersome and tenacious strain, and complete eradication Is very difficult and prolonged. Sometimes the fingernails become chronically infected with one of a variety of strains of fungi. The patient has to treat this situation diligently and faithfully daily, under the direction of his physician for months In order to bring about a successful cure. Ringworms or localized fungus infections may be found anywhere over the body surface. These can be treated successfully and usually very rapidly, by he application of a specific fun gicidal ointment. Though fungus infections are not usually serious, they may 'develop Into a very de liberating state requiring a prolonged course of treat ment.
