The disease is most common on the eastern seaboard, especially in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Tennessee. The largest percentage of cases occur in the months from July to September when the ticks are most prevalent and when people spend more time out of doors. Almost three-fourths of the cases are in pre-school and school age children. In calling attention to the serious ness of this disease, Dr. Wheless gave the following practical preventive sug gestions: (1) Parents should examine their children at least once a day (or ticks. If the ticks are present, they should be removed gently with tweez ers or forceps so that the head of the tick does not remain imbedded. Carter Preston Warr LAMAR, SOUTH CAROLINA r PLENTY OF FLOOR SPACE - SALE EVERY DAY! Comment On Sports By Pete Fritchie Washington, D. C. - The game of managing Major Lea gue baseball teams is a tricky one; the (ate of Johnny Rigney and Leo Durocher are good examples of the unpre dictables of the business. Johnny Rigney took the expansion California Angels and had them in third place in a few years-in a league which hadn't been splet into divisions. He always had good pitching and the Angels were contenders-until this ye*r. Several years ago the De troit Tigers offered him a fine contract; he probably could have used the personnel on the Bengal squad to win a pennant. But he got a three year contract at a fine figure and stayed with the Angels. Last year there was a hint of trouble, as his team seem ed to falter, and this year his health failed, to some extent. The team wasn't the same and when that ten-game los ing streak occurred, veterans knew the front office would have to do something. They fired Rigney, one of the games's better managers up to this year. With Leo Durocher, the story begins from the other end. He was a good manager. After his last stint with the Harris Pharmacy has but one game remaining against a team they have not defeated Thursday night-Nash Farms. Wants, though, he wanted another managerial position and one was long in coming. For years he waited in the wings, so to speak. Yet Ourocher had to wait a long time before anyone would let him win a flag for him. LioybBmdg, marina Game FRI.-SAT Sun. & Tues. (No Show Mon.)
