Atwater, Ellis Wed At College Miss Barbara Jean Ellis of Louisburg and Mr. Robert Cole Atwater of Durham were married Saturday at 10 o'clock in the morning in the Louisburg College Chapel. Rewrend Sidney E. Stafford, Louisburg College Chaplain, officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Leroy R. Ellis of Louisburg and the groom, the son of Mrs. Hubert L. At water of Durham. Dan R. Ellis gave his sister in marriage and Dora Mae EUis, her sister, was maid of honor. Charles Atwater, brother of the groom, was best man. H. L. Atwater was usher. Following a wedding trip to unannounced points, the couple will reside on Route 3, Chapel Hill, N. C. The bride attended the University of Missouri and the groom attended Louis burg College and is presently studying at UNC-Chapel Hill. Deaths JOSEPH R. GILLIAM Joseph (Joe) Raymond Gilliam, 61, a farmer, died Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at White Funeral Chapel by the Revs. T. N. Daughtry and A. S. Tomlin son. Burial will be in Oak wood Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Roxie Clay Gilliam; two sons, Raymond J. of Franklinton and James G. Epsom Supper Huge Success More than 1,000 persons were fed hotcakes, sausage and beverage by the Kpsom Lions club when that group sponsored its annual pancake jamboree Thursday night in the fellowship hall of Liberty (Vance) United Church of Christ. The affair is held each year by the club as a major fund raising drive to benefit the blind, a major project of Lions. As early as 6 p.m. the fellowship hall was filled to capacity, with many standing in_Jj.ne to be served. In the kitchen at all times was a crew of 10 or more Lion "chefs" preparing the meal. A number of Lionesses assisted in the serving and cleaning of the tables to make room for additional pancake eaters. The Epsom club noted at the supper a good representa tion from the Henderson, Louisburg and Oxford Lions clubs. As in similar past events, the supper drew a good response from visiting club members and the general public. Bobby Moss serves as pres ident of the Kpsom cluh. Mrs. Jones Hosts UDC The Joseph J. Davis Chap ter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met Oc tober 21 with Mrs. Linda Perry Jones. Receives Ribbons (Frk. B.W.) Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Haskins attended the meeting of the American Rose Society in Norfolk, Vir ginia during the weekend. The Haskins had entered 21 of their roses for judging, j ?They received 4 blue ribbons. 4 red ribbons. 3 yellow rib | bons and 2 white ribbons For their collection of j three hybrid roses Mr and i Mrs Haskins received a silver award. Mrs. Jones attended the SUte U.D.C. Convention in Salisbury, October 7, 8, and 9. This chapter was awarded a Superior Certificate of Award for reports of activities of the chapter during the put year. The chapter has donated $5.00 to the Norman V. Ran dolph Relief Fund. This fund provides pensions to women who are descendants of con federate veterans who live in states which do not provide state pensions for these eligible women. Mrs. J. W. Mann presented a propwn on the State of Arkanus during the War Be tween the States. The pro grams during the 1969-70 year are to be on the states which made up the Con federate States of America.
