TAYLOR Youngsville Lists Outstanding Teenagers From The WUeWeekly The Outstanding American Foundation has announced that Harriett Pearce, Glen Evani, and Rodney Roberta from Youngsville High School have been selected as Out standing Teenagers of Ameri ca for 1970. The students, nominated for this honor by their school, will compete for state and national awards in the Outstanding Teenagers of America program. " The Outstanding Ameri cans Foundation, a nonprofit foundation dedicated to honoring, inspiring, and en couraging young people to take full advantage of the opportunities in America, sponsors this awards program annually. The recipients of this honor were selected on the basis of leadership, com munity or school service, ex tracurricular or religious ac tivities, scholarship, sports, etc. They will compete with other winners in our state for the Governor's Trophy a warded annually to the most outstanding teenager of each state. Each of the fifty state winners will be eligible for one of the Two National Out standing Teenagers of Ameri ca awards and college scholar ships. made available by the Outstanding Americans Foundation. Mr. John Putman, Presi dent of the Foundation, has said it is the goal of thia awards program "to recognize and encourage the ability and achievements of today's young people. They -~?re America's leaders of 'tomor row." - The Outstanding Teenag ers of America's awards pro gram is guided by a distin guished Board of Advisors re presenting major youth or ganizations and educational institutions. Rodney, a senior, is serv ing as Vice-President of his class. President of the Beta Club and Co-captain of the basketball team. He was se lected as Most Athletic for the Senior superlatives and is a Y.H.S. Morehead Scholar nominee. - During his junior year, he was chief marshal, Vlce-Presi dent of the Beta Club, trea surer of the Student Council, co-captain of the basketball team, and a member of the baseball team. An active member of the Youngsville Baptist Church. Rodney, serv ed on the 1968 Youth Com mittee. As a sophomore, he served as a marshal, was a member of the Beta Club, won letters In basketball and baseball. She is an a<ffve member of the Youngs ville Baptist Church where she is vice president of the Young People's Fellowship. Her hobbies are water skiing, pool, swimming, skating and Karata. She is also co-captain of the. basketball team. During her sophomore year, Harriett was Treasurer of the Beta Club, -a marshal, a homecoming court nominee, and a member of the basket ball team, student council and Glee Club. She was se lected for the all-conference, all-tournament and all-East basketball team both in 1968 and 1969. In addition she was named the most outstanding player in the 1968-69 Helena Holiday classic. During her freshman year, Harriett was. vice-president of her class, a marshal, a home coming court nominee, a member of the Beta Club, Glee Club, basketball team, and served as a pagette in the 1967 session .of the N. C. General Assembly. Glenn, also a junior, is currently President of the Student Council, local trea surer and county treasurer of the Beta Club, a member of the F.T.A. club, manager of the baseball and basketball teams. An active member of the Youngsville Baptist Church, he is treasurer of the Young People's Sunday School class. He is sports re porter for newspapers and his hobbies include water skiing, coin and stamp collecting, hunting and fishing. During his sophomore year. Glenn was President of his class, a Student Council Representative, a member of the Beta Club and Glee Club, manager of the baseball and basketball teams, a marshal, a 1969 candidate for the Go vernor's School, and received the High School Mathematics. English, and French medals. He servedas a page at the 1969 session of the N. C. General Assembly. Glenn, an Eagle Scout with Gold Palm, received the God and Coun try Award and was a Senior Patrol Leader and scout life guard.
