XHK CONTEST, XM SOUTH CAROLINA. Dr. XL V. HedfleU, the welMnformed southern corn's pondent of the Cincin nati Commercial, writing under data of September 9, from Greenville, & CJ., "I am almost read to believe that booth Carolina will go democratic; ' At E resent the chances are about even, ut the doubt U in lavor of the demo- crets. Tbe state in aroused at It baa not been since the war. It may fairly be said to be ablaze front the mountains to tbe sea. The whites are united aa they never have been. There is abso lutely do division in raukft. White re publican U are not office -holders are as scarce as whales m tb Ohio river. In nearly every paper I pick upl find a "card" from some heretofore white re publican who announces himself for Hampton, saying in effect, or directly so, that African government here has been a failure ; that the state is drifting to destruction, and that the only; relief is tbo election of a stralghtooL- white , ticket. Mr. W, E. Rose, of Columbia, whom I know, au-l who baa heretofore been unwavering in his republicanism, is out in a card, with his five sons, re nouueiog the 8outh Carolina republican party as a failure and joining the Hamp ton ranks. i "We find the whiles united and de termined to carry the election. We find the republicans divided, split into a Chamberlain faction and an auti-Cham-bcrlain faction. The colored leader, Elliott, says that if Chamberlain is nomiuuUd next week he will vote for Hampton. Judge Mackey says if Chamberlain is not nominated be will vote 6r Hampton. Thr gods have not made these republicans mad, but they have taken away a portion of what lit tle sense has heretofore been confided to their keeping." , ' , ; , J ,' THE NEGROES FOB WACB HAMPTON. Charleston (S. C) Journal of Commerce. Twenty-three colored men of.' the town of Abbeville have joined the Til den and Hendricks club, and several more will counect themselves with It are of the best men of their color honest, industrious, good citisens, who have amassed considerable property, and bave an interest In good govern ment. A planter in Richmond, a relia ble gentleman, who employe a large number of hands, informed us yester day that two-thirds of the hands on his place have declared for Hampton. He says the ami oun caracal surprised bim as much as it could have surprised any body, as bo was not aware that he bad more than two democrats on the place. He further inform us that a boy child born upon the plantation several days ago was uamed by its father, one of bis truttiest handi, 'Hampton." We hope 1'iut boy may live to become a good citizen and a leader of hii people in the paths of virtue, truth, honesty and pa triotism. COMING TO GRIEF. SL Louis Tlms.3 --. Uadical campaign stumpers in Indi ana are coming to grid rapidly. First, there was Godlove bV Ortbr who was hauled down when he had made only, two or -three speeches. Next came Henry O'Connor, the eloquent gentle man from Iowa, whose appointments were canceled after one drunken and disgraceful speech. Then it was Kil patriuk, whose extreme indiscretion in writing to Hayes for a bloody shirt and more money has earned for bim the universal execration of bis party. Now it is Colonel Ben Nabers, "a prominent republican of Mississippi," who 1 is proved to be a street drunkard and a political dead-beat, having voted ibe democratic ticket at tbe same election which be ia denouncing as having been "carried "by fraud and" Winchester rifles." The radicals are having the lmrftaafc ftf lionl lurk in Indian. -T- NOVEX. CAMPAIGNING. The democrats of Daviea county, InL , have arranged for a traveling political camp, meeting. The arrangement pro vides for a moviug caravan, to bo com posed of five hundred Tildon Guard, in uniform, as advance escorts, one hun dred and fifty wagons, each containing men, women and provisions for the trip and a twelve-pound cannon manned by gunners. The doaigu is to start on the morning of September 19, and make a eomplete circuit of the second congress ional district, stopping every day at some prominent point for a meeting. At sourise a salute of one hundred guns will be fired to convince the neighbor' hood that basin em U on band. Hons. Heister Clymer, S. 8 Oox, James B. Bock and others will accompany this camp meeting on wheels. . A COLORED CANDIDATE ON THE . STUMP. W. F. Yardley, the colored republi can candidate for governor of Tenuessee, made his opening campaign speech at Nashville Monday. A Urge crowd was present, composed of white and col ored citizens, lie announced himself s standintr sonarelv on the republican . platform, favoring the payment of the state's indebtedness, and the exemption of manufacturers from taxation for a term of years. His speech was very temperate and well prepared.' He will commence the canvass with Governor Porter, the democratic nominee, at Le- bauou, on the 11th instant. .
