A very curious case of araenio poison- iug has jtut occurred in Paris. A rich lady residing in the Faubourg St Hon or found herself grswing Tery HI, and the doctor pronounced her to be snffer iug from slow poison, Madame X. re jocted this idea as absurd, bnt On rising ene morning, found a' glass of water, which was usually placed by her bed side, to be discolored by a white, filmy powder. On showing this to the doctor, he at onoe declared it to be arsenic. All inquiries failed to detect the culprit and the next night madome filled the gloss herself, and kept careful watch that no one meddled with it Nevertheless, in the morning the white powder again made its appearance, and the doctor was fairly at bis wit' end to find tbe cause. Finally, he discovered that his patient was in the habit of rending in bed, and for that reason candles were kept - burn ing all night in her room. These can dles of a dazzling whiteness- had been strongly impregnated with arsenic dur ing their bleaching process, and the arsenic becoming volatilised by the com- utiKtion, poisoned tbe air of the bed room. TRICKSTERS OVERREACH THEM SELVES. , New Orleuus Bpeuiul to the Baltimore Gazette. A discovery of great moment has been made here, and the republicans are at their wits' end to know what to do. Tue democrats are in high glee and greatly encouraged, it seems that in the five parishes of Iberville, Iberia, St. Martin, Conoordia and West Baton Rouge five Hayes electors liave been omitted from tho ticket three only being plaood on it. resulting in tbe low of over two thous and votes for Hayes. ' This cannot bo gotten over. Anderson has written a letter asking for five northern democrats and five republicans to be present at the count by the. returning board. -SETTLE GIVES UP RATES. j (Richmond Whig. : j ' That Got.
