Mr. Morrison held that at the time he made his proposition ar 8 mount equalling nearly one-third of the money in circulation in the United States was lying in the treasury idle and unproductive. Subtracting from this amount so much as was ileeossary for current expenses and for the redemption of United States notes and laying aside the amount whleit was unavailable, be ing tin fractional currency, there would yet remain a surplus of X7U.UUO.UUU He proposed, therefore that when this surplus shou-ld, amount to a sum oyer $1QO,000,80,- it should be paid out, in sums not less; than X1U.UUU.UUU per month, to redeem the interest bearing notes sf the United States. By so do- ingl he maintained, and rightfully, dofehtlAMM. the government would be saved interest, money wuuia be. made oheaper, and temptations to extravagant expenditure would be removed. Alanaase. In order that it may- be sharp and de cisive the thorough organisation of the democratic hosts is necessary. It is agreed that organisation is the sine qua non of party success and the only re maining question therefore is as to the means of securing it. There is but little time left bow in which to do the food work. The nominations are daily eing made i and the preliminaries or the campaign will thus soon have ben completed. Let the most be made of what time remains to us Those interested in tho democratic party mvery community should see that the democratic strength of his neighborhood to the very last man is put in trim for the fight. Every citizen is interested m securing an honest and economical administration of public affairs, and every intelligent citisen knows that such an administration can only be secured through the democratic party. Every effort should therefore be made to the end that democratic principles may remain triumphant, blessing the State and giving to our children the assuranoe of peaceful homes. The Way to 'organize is simply to or ganise. jvery aemoorat should eon' sider himself : a committee of one ap pointed by the demand for the common weal to see that (he legitimate party machinery is oiled and set to work, and kthat all his neighbors of the, good old democratic faith sre duly enlisted for the contest, j And this should be done without; delay. Time presses Every square mile of the State should be canvassed for the right that the demo oratie host may march to victory, as it should, weakened by the absence of none of those who belong to it. Let the call for action be sounded from every hill-top anil along the flowered borders of every stream. Let the arms of political war fare be burnished and sharpened. Let "our friends be up and buckle on their armour." Then may we advance not only in confidence but in the beauty of ; a close array to the victory which awaits us. Hndrsn Item. A capias was sent to' him, from Alexander county, informing him that Bedford Hol8claw, charged with larceny, had evaded tho officers of jfhat county and taken up his temporary j abode on Duck creek, only a short distarce from the Al exander line. The sheriff asked for Holsclaw, but no one knew anything of him. He tron searched the hnt bnt conM und him, and was about to leave the place. While talking he noticed a man ooming down the hill to wards the house with a gun on his shoulder. The sheriff asked some one if that was Bedford Holsclaw, to which question an evasive answer was given, and an old woman in a loud voice told him to "run, the sheriff was after him." Holsclaw continued to approach, swear ing that be was not afraid of all the sheriffs in the State, handling his gun in a threatening manner but he didn't know the man he had to deal with. Tat tle advanced, and as they came.hear mat ing each other, Holsclaw threw down his gun and ran, with Tuttle aftsr him. It was nip and tuck with them, fbr some distance, but finally liolesjkw com menoed gaining . The sheriff commenced shooting, but Holsclaw disappeared over the ridge and made hisv escav. When he reached the place where New land had his prisoner, he found that a messenger had passed, going for a doc tor, to cut a bullet out of Holsclaw. Tuttle then, accompanied by Newland with his prisoner, went back and search ed the house and woods for Holsclaw, but oouldn t nnd him. it has sinca been made known that one shot took effect, striking the arm near the shoul der and ranging down towards the elbow. To burn the stomach with acids, or purge the bowels with mineral drinks, in the hap-haiard manner often indulged in, is to trifle recklessly with the health. For a person in an approx imately normal condition there is no need of either stimulants, tonics, "nerve foods," purgatives, or other disturbers of nature.
