Subocriptioa price $1.00 a year, six Booths 50 cents, three months 15 cents. This paper is sent only to subscribers who pay in advance. Advertising rates on application. Tflk those No. 54. . With four more judges in the state and four more districts the gentlemen will have more tinta to loaf on their jobs by the long er division of the work, if they should choose to do so and no doubt many of them will. 1 Fipav. FmitrAT 7. Many persons are laboring under misinformation in regard to the proposed new road legis lation for Caldwell county and we suggest to them to investi gate the matter thoroughly as it is the most important measure that is before the county at this time. Quoting the late Presi dent Grover Cleveland, "It is a condititon, not a theory that confronts us" Caldwell is loosing good citizens every year because of bad roads and other inconven iences and the question is shall we let this drain continue, or make an effort to check it as well as provide modern comforts for ourselves. We notice that the legislature has not yet made any effort to protect the people and sheep of the state from the ravages of worthless dogs. One death from hydrophobia costs the state more in real loss than ev ery dog in the state is worth, to saj" nothing of the continued'de struction of sheep and other property. ACrA From the detphs of our hearts we want to thank our friends and neighbors for their many acts of kindness and expres sions of sympathy and love dur ing the recent illness and death of our daughter and sister. We thank God we live in a commu nity where the brotherhood and sisterhood of men and women, neighbors and friends exist to such an exmplary degree that it lightens affliction and bereave ment. May God bless each of you individually. C.'L. Triplett and Family. ADMINISTRATORS NOTICE. Harinp this day qualified as ad ministrator of the estate of J. R. Here is a message of hope and good cheer from Mrs. C. J. Martin, Boone Mill, . Va., who U the mother of eighteen children. Now if you favor good roads, call on the Vice President of your township and give him your name as a member of the Good Roads Association of the county. The object of the As sociation is to work for better roads and whether a bond issue is voted or not, united effort on the part of our people will help theroads of the county in many ways. So see your committee or township vice . President and enlist in the good work. We find the sentiment in fa vor of the co inty commissioners making a sample piece of road, is growing. It' is argued that a sample or several of them made on different roads would be the best possible way to show to the j people what a modern sand clay j road is and at the same time find! out if the materials available in this county are such as are need- ea ior nrsi class road making. The idea is a good one'and can do no harm while, it might save the county much expense should the bond issue be voted, by test ing the materials we hae in this county. The joint resolution from the House of Representatives to in crease the number of Suierior court judges to 21 instead of 16, with additional districts and so licitors, was passed by the Sen ate- this week, also. A bill has been introduced in the legislature to put all solici tors on salary, instead of fees as now. The salary to be $2,000 for 15 weeks work and $100. per week for extra time over 15 weeks in the year. Why a woman has any trouble in picking a hat is a mystery to us.
