J Dear 8m: l. where the GARDNER FIRE EXTINGUISHER did effec tlTe and excellent work. On December 31, 1871, it arrested the fire and saved the Sunday-school room, which was the rear part of tho I Messiah, the front being entirely destroyed. Ou January 1, 1872, it eaved the house of Mr. Brandies one First street, between Gray and Broadway, the roof i and ceiling being entirely on fire. - On January 9th, It saved a building adjoining Vinegar Factory on Grey's alley. On January 11th, 1872, it saved Erner's Slaughterhouse adjoining Watson's Tannery, On January 11th, Watson's Tannery, corner. Wenzcl and Geiger. :X)n January 21st, Long's Foundry, Preston and River. On January 27th, it eaved the "Christian Observer" office and building on Main street, between Second and Third. On February 1st, it saved the Colored Lyceum, on Green street above Seventh. On February 2d, it did most of the work in saving the Episcopal Orphanage of the Good Shepherd. On February 6, 1872. Preston and River, Frame House. On February 28th, Chair Factory, Madison, between Gtznbpell and Wenzel. , On March Gth, Shopenhoa's brick-yard shed. Fifteenth beyond Maple. 7 On March 19th, Mr. Weidekind's cottage, Madison, be tween Eighteenth and Nineteenth. On March 19th, J. B, Wood & Son, hat store, Main, between Third and Fourth, On March 20th, Louisville Acid Works, High, between Thirteenth and Fourteenth. On March 20th, East and Chestnut, frame house. - On March 26th, Pat. Monohan's stable, Seventeenth and Lytle. Since the above fires I have put out 20 additional with the Gardner Extinguisher in my department. My observation of the working and capacity of this Extinguisher enables me to say, unhesitatingly, that it Is far more effective than the Babcoek, and decidedly better adopted for use in fire departments on account of it shape, which allows of ascending ladders without danger to the operator. .' Wishing you again the success this invaluable machine deserves. I am yours, respectluliy GEORGE W. LEVI. C. E. F. D. LouiJviiU, Ky. Office oi" "Saturday Night," ' Philadelphia. Feb. 10, 1872. Very t'seful Invention. Inventors have, for many years, been trying to make ail effective aud reliable machine for the instantaneous witting out of fires. Many machines tor this purpose have appeared witirn the past thirty years, and notwith standing their great detects, they were productive of much good. But they were a 1 constructed ou each defective mechanical ' rt ncivis that they fa led to accom plish all that the people had the right to expec t of them. gWithin the last few months the Gardner Fire Extin gttisher, manufactured by the Philadelphia Fire Extin guisher Company, has appeared. The Gardner Extin tMhcr has all the merits or its predecessors increased to a wonderful decree, and is entirely free from thtirde ftzt-i. It soon restores faded or gray hair to its original color, ia it) i the gloss and freshness of youth. Thin hair io thiokencu, fallen hair checked, and baldnu; -. i'ten, though not always, cured by its use. Nothing can restore the hair where the follicles are de stroyed, or the glands atrophied and decayed; but such as remain can be saved by this application, and stimu lated into activity, so that a new growth of liair is produced. Instead of fouling the hair with a pasty sedi ment, it wiil keep it clean and vigorous. Its occasional use will prevent" tho hair from turning grey or falling off, and consequently prevent baldness. The restoration of vitality it gives to tho scalp arrests and prevents the forma tion of dandruff, which is often so un cleanly and offensive. Free from those deleterious : substances which make some preparations dangerous and inju rious to the hair,, the Vigor can only benefit but not harm it. If wanted merely for a HAIR HRESSING, nothing else can be found so desirable. Containing neither oil nor dye, it does not soil white cambric, and yet lasts long on tho hair, giving it a rich, glossy lustre, and a grateful perfume. Prepared by Dr. J. C.
