tween Messrs. McKay and Wad dell. Mr.
Waddell led off in his same little speech
be has been speaking for the past two
years, telling us what he knew about
corruption, etc. Col, McKay, although
; greatly faticued and sufferiDwith a
very severe cold defended himself and
the Republican party in a masterly
manner. He showed up Col. Waddell
and his ku klux friends in their true
light, and snowed that the fruits of
the stolen bonds went into the hands of
the Democrats and repelled the charges
ol iraud, so forcibly, that it carried
conviction with it, to many ol the lis-
; tenors present. Col. McKay made an
appeal to his friends to stand bv him

An immense Greeley ratification meeting
here Saturday night, at which resolutions
endorsing tbu Liberal Republican nomina
tions,and the action of the Baltimore Con ven
tion Averc unanimously endorsed. A large
number of colored men participated in the
meeting. The Mobile Republican and two
other papers lately came out for Greeley, this
leaves but four straight Republican news
papers in Alabama, of which two yet remain
uncommitted.

Madrid, July 20.
A large sum of money was found on the
person of one of the prisoners who was en
gaged in.th'c-attempt to take the life of King
Amadeus. This, together with the antece-.
conspiracy.
Previous to the attempt at assassination
the King had received an annonymous com
munication, warning him that his life was
in danger. When the attack on the royal
party was made a sharp engagement occur
red between the would be assassisns and the
police and the King's escort his Majesty,
himself, was anxious to participate,but was
prevented by his attendant.
It is generally believed the parties arrested
are the some who assassinated Prim.
