Ouwuiug, J.-q , of Wash ington, bas prepared a lecture with tbe abore title, wbich be proposes to de liver in tbe South to tbe people of both races, wherever sufficient encouragement is given, and we hope he may be in duced to deliver it in this city. From tbo reviews of it, published in several of our exchanges, we are convinced it would be ot considerable benefit, and do mucu toward removing some of the bitterness still manifest in our midst. . A private letter to Hob. G. . Mab son, from Mr. Vasbau of Washington, states tnat Mr Downing is williug to deliver this lecture in this city, if sulll cient encouragement is given to pay tbe necessary expenses, which we have no doubt will bo done. Mr. Downing' extensive acquaintanee with tbe people, qot only colored but the leading white men of tbe United States, make him in a very large degree the right man in tbe right place. We hope Mr. Mabson will investigate, and secure a sufficient guar antee, and invite him. There are hun dreds of our citizens who would go to bear bim, and be willing to pay a small admission fee to defray tbe expense. From the Washington Republican. THE A LUE It I NE COAST.
