From private advices received from Havana, under date of March 11, the Cuban! , merchants Vf this city have learned that the commission of La Denda has been engaged in the exami nation1 of the affairs of' the Spanish bank land have ascertained that that institution i has issued $104,000,000 in paper currency, instead of $60,000,000 whichj the bank had j acknowledged in their published statements, and that their capital is only $0,000,000. Itjhas been further ascertained that the basis Ifor this over issue has been a loan to the Captain General of less than $50,0000, 00Q in'paper currehcyl without the spe cie to back up the notes. In addition to this immense issue a very large quan tity oli counterfeit bills have been dis covered, and this has created so much ex citement in Havana that specie is going up rapidly, and many: persons are ex changing their currency for reaj estate and buildings in the erection of the latter there has lately been great activity the ownerj of paper money being far more nnr.'niie f, Vinvo ' Tirntiprtv in huildiBSTS C UA1V w - than to hold any quantity of deprccia tin' currency. WEEKLY KEVIEW OF TIIE- t MS WILMINGTON MABKEltf3 FRANCE. Mvi, i Thd advance in rosing spirits an cot ton are the new features which have been developed in the general traej for the past week, though fall branches of business have partaken of the quietude the sequence of ! the planting season. A similar condition of the market is reported at all other Southern ports knd interior towns. Our merchants, howe ver, are sanguine of an improvement ere mkny. weeks, and are consequently receving, per steamers weekly from j the North!, large, and varied supplies? of goods; both in the grocery and dry goods jline. The New York, Financial CJironkle, in its reyiew of the New ork dry goods market, says the increase; of business, consequent upon the advance of the; season, has been I restricted enti rely to the jobbing department of jthe trade.! The movement from first hands has bejen light, and the market for scjme lines of cotton fabrics has softened a little, although the accumulation! of most makes has not yet become so jex cessivC as to cause a serious depression. The arguments that we advanced some weeks! ago, however, regarding the im warrafitedly high range of values cur rent lipon all cotton fabrics are slicjwn to have boen well founded, and the gra dual shrinkage of values seems to be inevitable. It is manifestly an Un healthy state of affairs when - goods are so far above their relative value, as com pared i-with the cost of the raw material, the price of laljor, etc., as to deter buy ers from operating beyond the meagre necessities of their current trade. Yet this has been j the condition of out market throughout the present season, and until buyers are met on a fair basis we cannot look for much, jac tivity in the trade. There has been a good attendance of Western, Southern, Southwestern and near-by buyers dur ing the past week, and jobbers have been kept fairly j busy, j though the ag gregate movements were not as liberal as might have been expected from so numerous an attendance. i I Collections are reported easy through out, and ndthing is heard regarding financial dimculties, the only cause tor complaint being the undue backward ness of the trade. M Spirits Turpentine- -There was much more activity in this market dur ing the past week and prices havej ad vanced 2 j ceii most jpart has been from speculators and for small orders.
