Our fancy, waa partlcolaily please I by a top-bug gy recently turned out, which in finhh and. style is quite equal to tho very best work loi.e in any of our cities. It is roally a pn- "in apvcnucu i woi itiiians.iip, creaiiacie.noi only to the' tas'te ami liberality of our friend', ! but especially so to ifie faithful and accom plished workmen in their siallisbmee'. Our t people need nevr go Irom home, so' long as a manufactory of the cUracter of this is in heir mldit. Indeed it U wrong that they sl.euld do so,' r.nce we be'.i ve that they can get good work aad material as cheaply here j as elsewhere. This' enterprising firm deserves a most liberal patron jgo front the people i Lastern North Carolina. We know Ilia members to bo gentlemen, and orders left w illt or seat them will be answered by good honest and beautiful work. Lot -those who have never done so t.y them, and our word f it it they will not dWippmt you. Again we wish to call attention to the rapid and permanent progress of Wilson. We' no ticed mid work going on where the Flan Road Street and Railroad intersects, and up on inquiry found thai oar enterprising towns man Mr. B. J, Taylor, is preparing to erect a two-story brick burkling, twenty-five by sixty feet, for tbe purpose of running s cotton gin and grist mills by steam. We think this will prure of great benefit to our citizens in the surrounding country (as well as to those in town) fur most of them come here every weak any bow, and might just as well take along a few bushels of corn as tot, and when they once try it, as most of them will be glad to do, of such s dry year as this at least, they wilj Gud that I he idea that steam ground meal " not equal to water ground meal is a mere prejudice. We learn thai Mr. Taylors object for engaging in this enterprise, is just to pick his own cotton, and secondly, as be intends to run a Stock far in, to grind all the graiu be feeds to said stock. He seems therefore, lo be well aware of tbe great advantages of ground feed over unground. A great many seem honest in the opinion that the saving is all of twenty.fi ve per sent Mr. Taylor's advantages in procuring and erecting machinery adjusting sheds tc, &.C., through the splendid machinist aud thor oughly practical gentlemen. Mr. John Colville, his iartncr iu the lumber business at Wii mtngton, will be very great. We hail with delight, any and every thing that tends to make us more a "home spun' people, and hope that the new enterpise may meet with abundant success - wj Venture the opinion that at no very dis tant day, Wilson will be a place of much more importance than at present The rapid Improvements going up have a permanent and hialthy appearance, and as Wilson is situated upon a splendid elevation, mid way' between the two fertile streams, Contentna Creek and Tosnot Swaiup, surrounded by splendid farm ers and splendid farming lands, (either al- ready rich or abounding in muck or marles.) we cannot ton aity thing to slop the tide of comers who are already filling all our present buildings and creating a demand for new ones, There is however much room for im provemcnt yet ; and, we think an enterprise offering our village ami community, some banking facilities would be praise worthyn the extreme, arid enough of the present grow ing crop might easily be spared to make an eicel'ent beginning; and we think the sub- eot would ntcet a great deal of encourage ment, if properly presented to our enterpris ing people. Farmers in the country could then either loan their surplus money put safely or keep it on deposit without running the great risk of having their premises robbed in search of it. W'o may refer to this subject again. . V ''' In conclusion, let us intite the capitalists, ibo seeker of j It asure, the industrious median ic, the honest laborer to come and settle, among us, that wo may all work together for our mutual interest and prosperity gener-. ally:"" - 8tclir IManos.
