Richmond Whig. Mr.F'uhtr'i "oniion. In announ cing Mr. Fii-hcr as a candidate for Con gress in the Salisbury district, some of tlie Whig pspers have used the somewhat contradictory phrase, nb-lreaiuryU'hig. The Standard speaks ol him in more com prehensible, if not more correct terms, classing hint with the avowed Van Uuren candidates "in favor of the Independent Treasury, and opposeJ to Henry Clay and Use fifty million hank." Mr. Fish er's " vfiicial," however, of Friday last, (tlie Western Carolinian,) ssys that the Standard has fallen into an error; that Mr. FUlier has " distinctly stated, in all his public speeches and Brivate conver sations, that he is iieiiheoXa favor of Mr. Van Uuren nor the sub-treasury." This assertion, the Cardinian continues to say, is contained in a printed address to the people, recently issued, together with the exposition of Mr. Fisher's opinion upon other points. The error of the Stan lard, the Carolinian attributes to " the gratuitous sssertions of certain par tizan pipers;" to whom is very gratui tously" attributed the unfairness of giv ing "one-sided views of matters and thinga" for personal convenience, with out first having been 'duly informed of the same." Mr. Flatter a own constitu ents will doubtless have sn opportunity of hearing his own explanation of these matters; but if it is desirable that his sen timcnts should be correctly understood abroad, would it not be well at least to send one of his printed addresses to each - - of the editors in the state! But, notwithstanding all this disclaim' er on the part of the Carolinian, our views of " matters and tilings induce u to believe that the Standard U, for once, right; else why should VimBuren men have betrayed so much interctt in bringing Mr. Fisher out! or why ao ac tive in his support? But if we before had doubts, .the state- menu in the last Watchman might east ly remove them. In that paper Mr, Fisher is represented to have said that between Vsn Rurcn and Clay he had no choice;" he. had "not made vp Ins mind on the subject," On the subject of the suh-trcasnry, he is represented by the Watchman to have stated at Mocks villc, that "many objected to that sys tem on account of the additional patron age which it would give the President, but he did not think there was any weight in tluit objection.. He did not sco how it would be a greater source of patronago than giving it to the Banks (Ie said farther, that it was objected to this system that the money would not he secure in the hands of individual Ueposi lories, but he did not admit the Jorce of thut objection." Now if Mr. Fisher " is neither in fa ror of Mr. Van Burcn nor the sub-trea aury,' if tlicre is no desire to smuggle a Van Bureit man into Congress from a 27 Thuraday, 28 Friday, 29 Saturday, 30 Sunday, I Monday, 2 Tueaday.
