HON. C (. VALLANDIGHAM. This- eentleman is still at Shelbyville, Tens. A telegraphic dispatch from that place dated th 29th ult. shjts : Vallandigharn aays he comes upon com pulsion into the Confederate lines, ami asks to be received as a citizen of Q,hin, U. 3., in exile, banished from his country for no offence except his love lor Constitu tional liberty and the true principles of his Government, outraged by the Lincoln ad ministration. Forcibly denied protection in the United States, he is obliged.to seel 'it from the Confederate States. Whileas an exile, he is confident of kind treatment and consideration from the gen erous hospitality of the people, he defies to avoid all public demonstration, and lite in some retired place as a retired gentle man, full v sensible, as an alien enetnt, that his residence in the Conkderacy is slelv bv the tenerous consent of the uo wnment and the people, till he c.n return home safely, confident that his character -it well enoush known t satisfy' all that he is incapable of any word or act, alter his return to Ohio, inconsiete.nt with the rela tions he sustains towards the South during hitsnianrn aroon us. The renortof Mrs. Vallandisham's in sanity is a fabrication. She wrote to her husband a week ago not to deviate from the hio-h nath of duty, honor and patriotism After sentence Vallandigharn was kept in close confinement, only being allowed to communicate with Rosencranz, and his Staff Officers. Great disgust and dissatisfaction prevail ed throughout the North-west country, and there was an evident'disposition to rise and throw off Lincoln's roktf. Mr.Vallandigham.it is stated, intends going to Virginia. one dollar a day, and desired to go to Sarao toa, would you expeci mm 10 nncn up ms team and earrjr you there for nothing ? The hreman rrpueu, no, sir; uui.ii ne liadhis team hitched up, aud going direct to Saratoga, I should think he was a u--u hoj if he didn't let me ride." Calendar for 1863. The best printing ink is made as lollows : Take ten or twelt e gallons of linseed oil, set on a fire in an iron pot ol twice ihe ca pacity to hold the quantity stated, heat to boiling, and stir at the same time. If it does not take fire, kindle it with a piece of burning paper held in the cleft of a long stick; remove the pot from the fire, and a low the oil to burn for half an hour, or un til a sample of the burnt oil colrd upon a pallet will draw oat into'strine half an inch long between the fingers. The fiame is then to be extinguished by a tight coter. When the froth of the ebuIUion has subsid ed, black rosin is added in the proportion of 6 Ibt. to every 6 quarts of oil, tir the Mixture til! the rosin is dissolved, ani tnen add 1 lb, of brown soap, cnt in hce, (cautiously) and f ain stir till mixed, plac in the pot once mwe over the fire ; remove cover and set aside. The foregoing con stitutes the varnish; the ink itself is com posed of finelypowdered indigo and Ptu artm blue, of each 2i ounce,,Ump black, Z lbs , ivory black or bone black 4 lb., put them in a suitable vesel'and mix grad- uaiiy witn me warm varntsr. innmu tare, however, atill requires further grind ing in a mil! or upon a stone slab wiih a muller. It is t be remembered that hot weather requires a thicker varnish tban cold, and large letters require a thinner ink than small; hence, the preparation of the arni!i requires' reference to the time and also for the purpose for which it is to be used or two kinds of varnish may be pre pared for the tine and use demanded. We are indebted to Dr. Emmons, State Geologist, for the above receipt. If strict ly followed we hfve no doubt the very best Erglith ir.kwill be the result. Ra't'gh Slhndard, A Scrsp or History.
