Brad shaw. - The above is the winning ticket placed in the field by the Guilford county Democratic convention Satur day. Every man on the ticket is a well known, faithful and loyal Demo crat who will fill the position for which he has been named with credit alike to himself and the constituency he will serve. The convention was held in the Grand opera house and was called to order by County Chairman Brown -a few minutes after 11 o'clock. Every precinct was represented, the crowd being one of the largest that has attended a county convention in Guil ford in many years. Many ladies were present, occupying seats in the boxes and the balcony. f After an invocation by Rev." Mel ton Clark, pastor of the First Pres byterian church, Secretary Collins read the call for the convention and called the roll of precincts. Mr. E. D. Broadhurst, in a short speech, introduced ex-Governor Charles B. Aycock, who had accepted an Invitation to address the Demo crats of Guilford on this occasion. Aycock's Stirrig Address. The distinguished speaker was ed the enthusiasm of the Guilford Democracy and proceeded to make what is' pronounced one of the best j political speeches ever heard in j Greensboro. After a few preliminary , remarks, in whichhe took occasion to j say that this Is a Democratic year Mr. Aycock declared that North Caro lina today has the best government in the American union. He then pro ceeded to dissect the platform adopt ed by the Republican state conven tion in Charlotte, declaring that the Republicans were hypocritical in de claring for elf government. He call ed attention to the fact that the Dem ocrats have' increased the pension fund for Confederate soldiers from $30,000 to $400,000. and stated that Jthe Democratic administration in this CUlt.LO 11 UUi VU1 J(A1 utrj aiiu cial interests two-thirds of the taxes required for meeting the expense of LUC oiaic guici I11UCUI. The speaker thought the late Re publican sate convention should have passed a resolution of thanks to the Democrats for having made the Republican a white man's party, and said the reception tendered Mr. Cox the Republican candidate for gov ernor, upon his return home from the state convention would have been impossible under fusion rule in North uarouna. Mr. Aycock paid an eloquent tribute to Bryan, saying his greatness is due to his true heart, which beats In sympathy with the striving people and that he does hot patronize any one but meets all on an equality. Mr. Bryan was described as the typical, unterrif ied Democrat, nominated for speeches in Granville counties this week. Mr. S, S.
