CHILDREN'S WBEK IS BEING OBSERVED III IMPRESSIVE MAHNER One of 'the most interesting fea tures of "Children's Week" exer cises here this week was the baiby contest conducted at the Y. W. C. A. hut on Monday. Ahout 200 Greens boro babies passed in review befdre a dozen doctors and a large num ber of parents and other interested spectators. In the infant class, which includ es children up to nine months of age, first prize was awarded to Frank iR. Hutton, Jr., six-months-old son of Mr. and ;Mrs. Frank R. Hutton, Jr., 607 South Mendenhall street. The prize is a new dress do nated by the Jack and Jill shop. First honors in the second group, composed of children between the ages of nine months and two years, were attained by Charles E. Ben nett, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Bennett, 20 0 Scott avenue. A five-dollar gold piece was the prize, presented by the Metropolitan Life Insurance company. iMiss Margaret Goodman, . daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Goodman, 1110 North Elm street, won first prize in the third group, composed of children from two to four years old. It was five dollars in gold, given by Mrs. Ceasar Cone. First prize in the fourth group, four to six years of age, was awarded to Sarah Goodman, Margaret's sister. The prize, a five-dollar gold piece, was given by Mrs. Julius Cone. The physical condition of the prize win ners was pronounced virtually per fect. On Tuesday almost 4,000 chil dren took part in interesting games staged at the county court house grounds under the supervision of H. W. P!ark, physical director of the city schools, assisted by Miss Mary Coleman, physical director of the North Carolina College for Women, and 'Miss Morlock, supervisor of music in the city schools. The ex ercises of the day were under the auspices of the Parent-Teacher As sociation, Mrs. E. S. Wills having been active in direction of the pro gram. At 10 o'clock the day's program began with the playing of games by children under school age. Subse quently and successively recreation al activity was engaged in by- chil dren from the first, ' second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh grades. iLuter representatives ot the Y. M. C. A. played baseball and volleyball. From 3 to 3.30 a splendid recre ational program was presented toy students of the high school. Inter esting exhibitions were given by the. Boy (Scouts from 3.35 to 3.50. A notable feature of the afternoon was an exhibition by the drum and bugle corps of the Boy Scouts under the direction of Frank Hood and Chief Bugler Tutt. Community singing was enjoyed during the late after noon. Yesterday was observed as 'book day of children's week. The pro gram was featured by book showers for all the city schools. Today is music day. The schools opened with concerts of children's music. This afternoon a concert was given in the Smith Memorial building by Miss Lora Lulsdorf. At 8 o'clock this evening Miss Lulsdorf, assisted by Miss Viola Tucker, will give a con cert at the O. Henry hotel. Tomorrow will be health day and a noteworthy feature will be the ap pearance of "Cho Cho" a famous health clown. He will entertain the white children of the city from the first four grades at the Grand theater beginning at 9.30 o'clock. The "Cho Cho" program for the ne gro children of the elementary grades will begin at the Grand at 11 tomorrow morning. Saturday will be observed as ex hibit day. Visitors will be wel comed at the Woman's club build- i ing on xrth Edgeworth street from J 10 a. m. to 6 p. m. Many interest ing exhibits are planned.
