The Greensboro Country clutr building, located in Irving park, a short distance north of the city, was almost wholly destroyed fry fire about 9:30 Saturday morning. It is believed that the fire was caused by a defective flue. It "start ed in the roof near the center of the building and when discovered thet flames already had "made destruc tive progress. Low water pressure handicapped the efforts of the city firemen to extinguish the flames. Within a short time the building, with the exception of the howling alley wing, was destrowed. Most of the furniture except the personal belongings of iMr.and Mrs. Emil Hauck, managers or the club, was saved. The building and furni ture loss is estimated at - $40,000. ; On the building insurance in the sum of $25,000 was carried and the insurance on the furniture totaled $5,000. The loss sustained by Mr. and Mrs. Hauck is believed to be about $5,000. Iii accordance with an agreement reached Saturday night at a meeting of officials of the club the structure will be rebuilt in the early -future. The new clubhouse, which will -probably cost about $50,000, is expected to be larger and more attractive in every way than the one destroyed by fire. Mr. Hauck was in the cily when the fire started. Neighbors sa"T the blare on the roof and called tc :Mrs. 1-L.U-k. v.-ho found the iiont stairs ir- flames, necessitating the use of the :?ar stairway in orde for her to escape from the burning building.
