The ne groes first entered the tent where the Ketchens were sleeping and de manded Mr. Ketchen to give them money. Instead 6t obeying the com mand Ketchen reached for his pistol and one of the negroes opened fire one him, a bullet striking him in the chest. One of the shots barely miss ed the Ketchens baby which was sleeping beside the father. iMrs. Ketchen seized the .child and was on her way down the road to get belp when ehe was attacked.
