A: Dl Wester. c copy the following discription of the mammoth . building, erected by ; Messrs. Williamson, Upchurch Thomas, of Raleigh, from the Raleigh Sentinel. The Mammoth Building. The new building of Messrs. Williamson, Upchurch & Thomas, recently erected :onrayetteville street, is, perhaps, the 'largest building of;the kind in the" S-ate, if not the largest in the South J This mammolh building is three stories high, two hundred and ten feet in length-extending across the" b'ock from Fajettevillo street to Salisbury street, is thirty-two? and a half feet in' widtu, and, we aro informed by the contractor, fivo hundred thousand bricks wercj used in tFe erection' of the walls. This house was built express ly for the cotton trade", as all its ar rangements and appointments show, The increasing business of these popu lar cotton merchants necessitated the construction of a more spac pus build ing than the one they now occupy. Sorie fidea, may bo formed as ; to what Raleigh i3 doing in the cotton lino when we state that the single; firm of Messrs. Williamson, Upchurch & Thomas handled last year more than ten thousand bales, Qfv cotton. One of the firm informs us that their larco building just approaching completion would not have been large enough for the business of that year, and yet their business i3 steadily on the increase, Raleigh is something, of a cotton mar ket, after all.
