The people of our County have ever maintained a character, for intelligence and patriotism equal to that of any lo cality in the laud. We know that they will not 'ail now when victory is within the'ir grasp. Now, when more than ever, every man is called upon to do his d ity We believe with strong work that Franklin can be redeemed from the clutches of the Civil Righters. We left Hickory Station on the 17th, and wended onr way to Pleasant Garden, a beautiful and romantic place. Situated 5 miles from Marion. Buck Creek a beauti ful stream flows within a few yards of the Hotel. The walks are beautifully laid off bordered vith box, spruce-pine and various kinds of shrubbery. The hotel is a large building with several cot tages attached, there were between 20 and 30 visitors, among the curiosities 'exhibited was a large rattle snake. On our route from Mariou to Pleasant Gardens the scenery presented to our Tie w was grand and beautiful, we had a fine' view of the "Sable rock and Roane Mountains.' We crossed th -beautiful Catawba river. After spent -ing a few days at Pleasant (! at dens, we find ourselves at Marion, thecoun.y seat ' of McDowell, an elevuted ami healthy location, the air pure and bracing. This tuoruiug we ascended mount ''Ida ' a mountain about a quarter of a mile from the hotel, about a mile in height, where we had a fine view of the village aud surround ing country.
