The ScieiKu; ol -cVcl voi-- Tho object of advertising is to in- form the reatetil numbcr of r.eonle .n ltj1(, nin.; . ftt:rrf m!inn j a.; I -4vw'vwv-v iiiiiiiuvi) 14 Ii VI VU I J oojec b best attained by anuounce- nients in the columns of the press. There are other methods of advertising and novel ideas Spring up every day, but such are but for the moment, and the experience of all fiist-class and suc- cessful houses induce them to do their advertising iq the nswspapers, and there alone. jNext cocoes the question as to what is the best method of securing the at- tei.tion of newspaper readers. It is very simple and consists in coutiuu- I 0us advertising. The retail merchants err in judgment when thoy order in a large advertisement for one time nn- Iy, permitting many days to pass be fore their order is repeated Such fit ful spasms of advertising doubtless produce a etrtain effect, but it is the steady, constaut advertiser who pros pen in the end Tha best way it to advertise liberally and continuously, and all who have sufficient courage and capital to invest without stint have found themselves rewarded even be- yond their expectation. Cut there are many who ai e inclined to limit their advertising expenditure. At prenent such merchants are apt to I launch into extravagant advertise- meuts inserted for one time, and when they do not find their buaiues i crease in a day, they grumbU at the cost and refuse to repeat the experiment. They i 1 huve not studied the science of ad vcr J tising. I rpi . r ,. i x ue secret oi success lies in unin- j terrupted advertising on a small scale, J varied by occasional ''spreads"' on suit- j able occasions Every paper has its J regular reader, and the uninterrupted advertisement familiarizes, them with the name aud object of the firm. Moreover, the interests cf firm and paper become uuited ; rhe reader looks at the title of house day after day, and m time comes to like the name. hen an extra announcement is made, he reads the advertisement through with attention, as the utterance of a fam.liar friend; and give attention and cjasid eratiun to the. matter distussed. There is yet another phae of the question. We hive thowu how unin terrupted advertising is the mot suc cessful way to necure the attention of the public, and we r.ov remind our read er'tl,atit 5 l3 lIie eapest waj, Sre tiai an augments cau no muae lor ''Standing Card?," aud regular custo mers, who deal directly with t'ne (.See, can alwajs command the fiit atteution and the fullest cwurtesies.
