Harris (The Mark Twain of North Carolina,) which took place after a short illness, at Wilmington on the 15th Inst,. Mr. li arris was editor of the Con- cord Sat,pubiiahed at Concord, and the State Agricultural Journal, published at Kaleigh. Wa copy the following from the Wilminsrton Jownal of t?ie ifuv All that medical skill and kindlv at- tention could do for him he haL Colonel Davis' ProP"etor of the Parcell House, lliemDCI9 of the press, and a number of Musons, attended him during his sick ucss, and after his death. Mr. Harris was the eldest sou of Dr Kiah P. Harris of Cabarrus, befng about forty two years of age. His fami-. ly, is an old and honorable one, his an cestors having been among the signers ofthe Jocklenburg Declaration of In dependence, the Centennial Celebration of which, next week, he felt so much interest in and had anticipated so much pleasure in attending. . Mr. Harris was a mem'Ler of tnfc 20th Regiment of iVorth Carolina troops during the late war, and served with credit to hiuislf and his State. He began the Publication of the Con corfLSuM abut three yejrs ago, arid had so conducted it as to commend himself to the Patrons of Husbandry, and last winter at the meeting of the State Grange had been selected by them to edit their official organ. He was a strong and humorous writer, and his death will be a sad loss to the press of the State. He leaves a wife and several children, who have most pur sincere sympathies in their bereavement. The sad event, when it became known, will cast a gloom over the entire city. It is terrible to contem plate how sudden the decent was from active life to sudden death and it con veys a lesson that will appeal strongly to the hearts of all thinking men. Cut down in the midst of a life of useful-" ncss, far from home and kindred and friend?, and en a visit where nothing but pleasure was apprehended, the re- j membrance of his sad fate will cover like a pad the memories of the f6 vites of the past week od pity and shield the widow and the orphans in their dire distress."
