Afternoon Session. Conference met at 3 o'clock, pursa ant to adjournment. Minutes read, corrected and ap proved. Rev B T Blake, the oldest member of the N. C Conference, and a member this District Qo reference writes as fol lows to the conference now in session: Dear Brethren : I would be glad to be with you at your approach ing conference, but t am too infirm to expect go great a joy. Through the goodness of God I am yet $pared to witness the prosperity of the 'f."0. Conference. The nearer I get to the end of my pilgrimage, the more I am convinced of the excellency of our ecclesiastical constitution. I am more of a methodist now than I was fifty years ago, when my experience was limited. I thank God that I have lived to verify in my conscience-soul the scrip tural doctrines of Methodism which have carried on our church to such grand results as are exhibited in this centennial year, Yhcrever Methodism has gone it has proclaimed the gospel of a present, free and full salvation to all by repen tance towards God, and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. To have a comfortable pursua sion of our pardon is a great bless ing. To know that we have passed from death unto life is an exalted state, because we- love the breth ren, and are then prepared to go on to the mysteries of Godliness. The feeblest believer have an ali mighty Savior and is entitled to all the privileges purchased by his blood. They are ours by inheri tance and wo are false to ourselves if we do not olaim ihem. We are saved bp faith without work, but our rewards will be according to our works, "For as much as ye did it not unto the least of them that believe in mo, ye did it not unto me." In former years I found many dear christian frieuds in Louisburg, They are gone home, where we hope to meet them. 1 1 have a fond memory of them; mother Shines, brother and sis ter King, sister Thomas, brother Ar rendelland family, brother Hill and others?. Some are stilJ living whom I have ever loved and honored for their High christian character. It is my hearts joy to be pursuaded that I shall meet them in heaven. . I have nothing left for mo to do but to prepare for that eventful day. May Qod Mess the Centennial Dis trict Conference and make it a glori ous day in Louisburg Truly prars your aged brother, B. T. Blake. Rev A E Bobbitt and S Williams, from Rocky Mount and Nashville cir cuits, and G M Richardson, from Rolesville, were enrolled as members of the Conference. Dr Burkhea.d read the following re. port, which was adopted ; WiiEREas, The reports from the various pastoral charges of the District, while they show much prosperity in the cause of Christ, also exhibit a want of proper at tention to family religion, Class Meeting, and Church Conferences, Whereas, Some of our people drink drams and engage in worldly amusements, such as dancing, go ing to circuses, card playing etc.; therefore, Resolven, That we are grateful to Almighty God for the general pros perity of the cause of Christ in the District, manifested in the uniform piety and devotion of a large pro portion ot our membership; and that we will put forth greater ef forts to extend vital godliness among all our people. -Resolved. 2. That the manufac ture, ?ale and use of intoxicating liquors as a beverage, the prac tices of the modern dance, attend ing circuses, theatres, card playing and such like, are contrary to the word of God, the discipline of the church and detrimental to chins tiari character and influence. The President addressed the Confer ence in very severe terms against mod ern dancing; the buying and selling of spirituous liquors; indifference to social religious meetings, etc. Rev. S, V. Hoyle also addressed the Conference on dancing ic bitter terms. We would like to give our readers a lengthier report of these speeches, but space is too scarce.
