meeting is expected to be an in

their mill on Pennsylvania Avenue
are turning out red ; cedar shingles
in large quantities. 70,000 being
the average of a days output The
making of the shingles is a most
interesting ; industry, and the ra
pidity with which they are turned
out by the various machines is 'al

Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Church, of ML
Kisco, N. Y and Mr M. Wescott
of Lake Mahopac, N. Y., have been
spending the past two weeks in
this citv. OnThursday they left

few days, returning Saturday and
leaving the same day for the north.
On the way home they will stop at
New Port News, Old Point, Wash
ington and other places.
Dr. Conland, of Brattleboro, Vt;
who has been spending several
days at the Arlington Hotel, left
Saturday. He is one of the. most
noted phjsfcians in the country,
and it was he who attended Bad
yard Kipling in his illness at New
York not long since. Kipling has
dedicated one of his recent works
to the doctor. Speaking of the
south and of - xJizabetn Uity in
particular to a Tab Heel reporter

favorably impressed both as to the
present and especially the future
that is certainly before us and also
that .Elizabeth was one of the busi
est and most hustling towns he
