Be it resolved, That .a copy cf these resolutions be spread upon the records of this Association and a cppy of which be suitably framed and be presented to the family of our deceased brother. The committee of thanks subr mitted the following resolutions which were unanimously ad opted. Resolved that the Surfmen's Mutual Benefit Association, extend burdens of good things to eat and every body was happy. - - After the dishes had been cleared away Messrs, C. W. Ward, James II. Holmes, T. B. Sanderlin and G.L. Midgett . Capt It. B. Midget of the Chica- maoomico station with crew con sisting of, E. S. Midgett,, D. O. Midgett, Jno. 'A. Midgett, Jno. T. Payne, D. W. Oneal, Z. S. Midgett, Kosooe Burrus and J. E. Gray. The Beech apparatus drill by Keeper Pugh and his picked crew was the first on the program! Thrae hundred ards from shore was a vessel, supposed to be in dis tress. A rope was shot over the rigging with a Lyle gun. By the means of thia rope the breeches buoy was placed in position and the crew, brought ashore. It was a novel sight; seeing men brought ashore in . such manner and the crowds cheered the performance. The next feature on the program was the boat drill by Capt. Midgett and crew. The capsizing and righting of the self-bailing boat was here presented. Last but not least was tne sig nal drill between Capt. Partridge's p.rfiw and the. cutter, Boutevell and the resuscitation drill by the same-crew. , , All that witnessed these drills wfii-A wSTl rdeased and niernly re paid for the walk to Biverside The exhibition was of a epectacu lar if not sensational nature and nrAd rnanv thrills to the timid ones.'7 ' :t " The three crews that participa ted in the exhibition made a cred itftMft sloowinf? and thir efforts to entertain were highly appreciated by each and every one of the many hundreds of spectators. MINUTES OF ASSOCIATION. Meeting was called to order by N. B. Rich, president Addresses of welcome were de livered by Hon. Edmund Alexan der,, and Hon. L M, Meekins, the response for ' the Association Tas made in a happy vein by Rev, y D. B. Austin, after whioh the meeting was adjourned for ; refreshment furnished by the citizens of Eliz abeth City, whose generous hospi tality was high ly appreciated and enjoyed. The Association was called to order again by the president at 3:30 p. m., for the dispatch of business. . Whereas, since the last meeting of the "Surf man's Nutual Benefit Association" our brother Hodges M. Gallop the President and Fath er of our Association has died. ' The committee on by laws hav ing recommended that certain mi nor amendmentsbe made to the ex- listing laws, the same t were unan- imouslp adopted by the associa tion. It being the unanimous opinion of the association that a suitable monument be erectea in memory of the late President of the Asso- ciation, Jveeper n. jyi. uailop, a committee -was appointed to confer with the widow, relative to the same. During the meeting the associa tion received several invitations to hojld their next; annual meeting in various cities and towns, after - some deliberation the matter was postponed for future considera- tion.' Institute's With the awarding of diplomas Dozens of yards, of, red white and! to the graduating class, last night blue bunting were used in dec orating our office. As a centre piece was a big banner bearing the legend "The Tar Heel Welcomes the Surfmen." Inside the door 3d a big tub of red lemonade with the sign over head, "It is the Tar Heel's treat."4, ; . Hundreds of people thronged our omce au aay; long, xney , v drank to our health and departed happy. Hundreds of men, women an'd children wore the Souvenir badges which we had made for the ' ..." occasion and on every hand: one was confronted with some emblem i of the Tar Heel's progressive spirit We showed the people how vwe made the "peoples paper," we let them drink their fill .' and as a re minder of the occasion presented many with "the souvinir badges. All who came expressed themselves as pleased .and therih were we ful ly repaid for our expense and trouble. j We were the first to decorate for this occasion, many others took the cue and followed, j Across Main street was suspended a banner heralding our welcome to all who entered our gates. The various drills presented by the girls and the vocal and instru mental music of the music class. was of a high order. i Last night was theahner night. and an immense audience was present notwithstanding lectures. at a special tent erected on Road street.
