At the appointment time Mayor McMullan ! of Edenton introduced the orator of the day to the Confederate veterans who had special seats of honor and to the great andiance that filled the Armory. The orator was Hon. J. j Grimes, one of the state's matchless orators and on this occasion, ne sns- tained all former reputation. Leigh's office for the purpose of perfecting plans for the Y. M, C. A. rally that will be held at the Court House next Monday night. Plans were also discusse'd for the organizing of a team to canvass for funds for the completion of the building. A team will be placed in the field immediately after the rally next Monday night for that purpose and a vigorous campaign will be waged until enough funds are secured to complete and turnlsb the building. Ahoskie Votes Tax. Raleigh, N. C. May 11, Prof. J. B. Carlyle, 6"f Wake Forest College, was in tho city Saturday night, returning from Winton, where on Saturday, he spoke at the closing exercises of the high school ,at that place. Prof. Carlyle says that he found the people of Hertford county rejoic ing over the local tax election at Ahoskie which was carried last Thurs day, being the first such election to win in the countf. He says also that Superintendent T. E. Browne, ever alert to the best interest his people educationally, is justly gratified that; his county no longer in the small numjl ber of counties in which no tax has been voted. New arrival of F. Bright, a resident of Camden County were buried last Saturday afternoon near South Mills. Rev. J. B. Ferebee con ducted the funeral services. Mr. Bright was about 76 years old.
