Wesley Foreman, second vice-presldentl E. F. Lamb, secretary and M. C. Crow- son, nssisstant secretary. The following executive commit tee was elected; J. T. McCabe, Dr. J. H. White, J. Q. A. Wood, Dr. L. S. Blades,; O. W. Melkk and Dr. O. McMullan.1 . .. At the meeting president Lamb made his annual report to the Cham ber, i The report was a lengthy ono going into details as to the wcrk. un dertaken and the work accomplished by the Chamber during the past year. The report was very satisfac tory to the members. Those petitionss are being 'liberally signed and in a short time they will be sent up to Raleigh for the consideration of our Legislature. Petitions are being sent to the Legislature from almost every coun ty in the ,State asking that the near beer business be abolished. , It's almost a certainty that a law will be enected during the present session of the. Miss Mary Desha, 65 years old, one of the three founders of the Daughters of the American Rev olutlon, died suddenly of apoplexy while walking near her home here today. She was educated. at Sayre Iasttute and Kentucky State College at Lexington, Ky., and taught in the public schools there for several years. Dr. McCormack of the National ed ucational Association delivered a very valuable lecture on Public Heal th last night in the auditorium of the High SchooL The audience was a fair sized one but every man' and woman In this town ought to have been there and heard the lecture. KRAMER RECOVERING. The many friends of the family will be delighted to learn of the conditi on of Mr. J. P. Kramer, who has been 111 for four months as the result of an attack of appendicitis. Mr. Kramer was operated upon in a Norfolk Hospital four months ago and from the very first his' condit ion was critical. His recovery has been exceedingly slow, and at times it was dlspalred of Bft he is flw rapidly recovering and his family ex pects him to be fully well in a short time. He is able to be out some now.
