We should be glad to hear from others on the subject as our columns are alwaya open to the opinions of every Democrat in the county whether their views on political question coincide with our own or not. The action of New Vork in de claring for Judge Parker and in structing its delegate to. support him in the Democratic National Convention ia significant. It does not necessarily follow- that Judge Parker will lie nominated, but the indications are that way. Tain jnany s support of him was not cordial, but it is argued that such indicated no opposition to him bnt the desire to throw such safe guards about the choice of New York's candidate as would insuru united support from the entire. State. -Tliero is, however, l;it little doubt that the judge will lie Democracy's national . banner bearer hi the coming campaign. At present he stands first with the party, and this late in the day it is hardly probable that a more acceptable candidate will come forward. Mr. Neill Shaw is the delegate elect from Lumber Hridge church to Presbytery, and I). D Hughes is the delegate from Shannon chn rch. There was no insurance upon the residence of Mr. II H. Hud gin Very fortunately he is able to rebuild. We hear he expects to replace the building at one. It is a great loss he subtained, hut supiMjse he was unable to re build how much sorer would th loaa be. The wiser man will al waya carry some insurance. About as many dwellings are burned, it appears, in summer as in winter, hence no business man feels ho can allow any season' or day to go by with his property uninsured. We wonder how many men there arc. in the county who have not paid their oll tax and are in dan ger of putting it off and losing their vote in 1!KW. O.ly n few days remain to pay their tax. A great and dangerous fire rag ed in the forests neBrby last Satur day. For a part of the time it was uncontrollable. Fortunately no damage was done, save the burn ing of several hundred panels of fence around Mr. Peter Monroe's farm. Rain fell about one o'clock and arrested it, and but for that there is no telling what damage would have been wrought by it. The public school in the Acad emy closed Wednesday. Teach ers and scholars alike are glad that the time is short (May 13) when the ysar, 1903-4, will oome to an end. A blaze of educational or atory, a big crowd and a big dinner will be a fitting finale. Messrs. M.L Marley and ex-Sheriff J. W. Hall went down the A. C. L. road Tuesday on business bound. Hev. fj. It is altogether a mistaken idea that because our county is solidly Democratic that we oan allow ourselves greater liberties in voting than 'would otherwise be accorded. It is as essential now that the solidarity of RobeBon's Democracy be maintained as when we had , to fight against Republi can ism and negroisni. The elim ination of the latter which almost annihilates former only makes possible the greater influences of the party and strengthens its pos sibilities for the accomplishment of greater good for the people. We cannot afford to have it torn by dissension into irreconcilable factions. We must have unity and harmony Concessions must be made on all sides until that harmony is restored which will makefile next county convention a Democratic Iovefeast, which shall obliterate past differences and past antgonisms.
