Mr. R. E. Townseud, of Wil eon, is visiting his brother, Mr. Ira B. Townsend, this week. It is the first time he has visited here in over seven years, and he received a most cordial welcome by his many friends. We regret to learn that Mrs WadeWisbart is very sick at the no me of her father, at Whiteville. She is threatened with pneumonia. Mr. Wishart went to Whiteville expecting to return Monday, bat on account ot Mrs. Wishart's ill ness, was unable to do so. Mrs. Sue Proctor passed away at her home here Monday morn inff, after an illness of several mouths. Her rtmams were tar ried to her old home place,, in Britts township, for interment. She was years of age, aqcj 4s survived by four sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Peter Helton, the wife of a well-known eitizan of Charlotte, was with her when the end came. One of bis children was in the bogey, and another standing between the wheels, when tbe mule became frightened, and ran,, throwing tha child to the ground, and one wheel ran over her. After going a short distance the child in the buggy jumped to the grcuod. Al though both were bruised severely they sustained no seripna inju ries. A second time lfttidsy morning the mule rap away. This time Mr. Ike Snt'deT was alone in the buggy. The mole took in the sides of houses, tele phone poles, barber posts, and thmgs in genersl. Three of the wheels were released entirely of their spokes. Mr. Snyder es caped without Injury. The mule evidencly found out it nai Christ mas, and wanted bis holiday. Dec 27. AT COST Death of Mr. D. Hedgpetb. We regret to ohroniolethe death of Mr. Daniel J. Hedgpeth whioh ocenrred at his home near Oakton Church, Sunday. Mr. Hedgpeth was apparently ;in good health, having not long since recovered rom a severe attack of siokness. Sunday he was taken with hemor rhage of the lungs, which resulted in his death. He was about fifty years of age, and is survived by a devoted wife, to whom we would extend our sincere sympathy. County Superintendent Married. Superintendent J. R. Poole was married Wednesday to Miss Pearl obnson, of Tomahawk, Sampson county, at the home of her par ents. Tm?yare expected to arrive here tomorrow, and will board at Mr. W. H. Humphrey's. Mr. Poole has won the esteem of the people of our town daring his residence here and has the beat wishes of a large concourse of friends..
